Happy to see a current challenge with "the lesser children" of the MT world; I'm so ashamed and mad with myself for not been alert, as this would have been a challenge that I've would enjoyed!!!    :poh:
Nevertheless, great job everyone; I'll be rooting by! :2tu:

Day 6: The file.  Of everything on this tool, this one is a disappointment.  It will cut soft pine... barely.  It will file softer metal.... barely.  Come on SOG!  This tool is a time proven beast!  You can do better than this!

I'm sorry for this, Barry!! Is your Powerlock with the pat. Number on, or way latter one with the SOG paralel to the jaws? If the latter, I can understand the frustration, as the teeth on those are merely striations across the "blade" (same with the power access/Deluxe) instead of cut through like the round-tipped ones or early squared ones.

Hi Juan, We would all still like for you to join in. Instead of ending on the 30th, you would extend into the first week of May.

PC, big bummer on the setback on the slip. I am sure the next one will turn out better.

Day 6

Still carrying a PPP with me today. But the discussion of the file lead me to get out a couple of different PPPs that I have. The file on the Edmonds PPP is much better than the later production PPP.  It has more bit than say the Stanley MaxEdge version or later squared off file versions. The ones on the PPP are still better than the one I have on the current production version of the PowerLock.

Jaun, please join us for the SOG Power challenge. You're only a few days behind

Day 06
The PowerDuo with tools splayed out.  You have a one hand opening knife, a Phillips driver, a bottle opener with big flat blade driver and a can opener with micro flat blade driver and then there are the pliers.

Hi Alan, Thanks for sharing that pic. You can definitely see the lineage in some of the tools. Plier jaws look like those from the PPP. Also, the Philips, can opener, etc. look straight out of the SOG parts catalog. I do like the idea of the one hand open blade, that looks handy. It would also be handy to have the toothpick and tweezers.  :tu:

That's what I thought I remembered JonesE.  My old one seemed to have more bite to it.

Waaaay later Juan. This one is only a year old, tops. I have a Leatherman file here that I wonder if it might fit.

Thanks guys for the support, but I'll be rooting from the sidelines, as I don't have implements to replace the PE and SE blades (I'd just wouldn't deploy the awl @work) in one of my tools to use at work.

Barry, I knew you could use PST tools, and I've seen new-Wave-type scissors in Powelocks but, don't know what entails to fit them. I do know that the pivot hole diameter is the same though; perhaps a vintage, PST ll diamond file or a Rebar's  might fit?

That's exactly what I have Juan, a PST II file.  When I get some time, I'm going to see if I can swap it out.  Great to have you following us too!

Day 7: Using the pliers on some constant tension fuel line clamps while changing filters.  Worked flawlessly!  The smooth deployment of the pliers is sweet when you only have one hand free!

Had to put the slip on hold for a day.
I'm hoping that this afternoon will provide some time to finish it up.  The BO still sits unopened.  The Boss Lady didn't go out to take our niece to school today.
I'm hoping that the stars align soon.

Decided that the PowerPint needed a friend for today's picture.  Mini pliers from the mini bag looked to be a good partner.

Day 07
Today I'm carrying the PowerLock.  After a week I'm just not getting along with the PowerPint. It is probably all I need, but it still feels too small to me.  The fixie is a late model DPx H.E.S.T. by lionSTEEL in Italy.

That's interesting to know Alan.  I've been kicking the idea around of picking one up.  That's a great pic!  The Powerlock can be many things, but small isn't one of them!

The PowerLock is certainly not small.  For scale, the HEST is 7 1/2 inches and looks small next to the open PL.
The closed length of the PowerPint is only 3 1/2 inches. The only way to determine if you're going to like it is to handle one.  The PowerPint is probably all you will need 90% of the time, and Brother PitCarver seems to like it.

That's been my experience most of the time too Alan.  Most of the time the smaller tools get it done, but there's times it's nice to have a little more heft.

Day 7

Decided to take on a quick project I have had on my radar for a while now. Late last year I picked up a plier jaws from a PowerGrab. I got out my PowerLock and removed the pliers jaw. I never need a blasting cap crimper. I guess I am not an explosive kind of guy. I did a few minutes of figuring and out came the Milwaukee Dremel. Started by carefully removing material to create a trough for the mesh gear pivots on the handle to clear on the plier jaw. I had to do it in four places. Then installed the plier jaw when it would easily slide back in the handle and the pivot bolt aligned. Then opened the handles to see where the jaw would make contact. Had to extend the cutout in the handle by a quarter inch or so. Now opens and closes smoothly. I still need to do some more work with the jewelers files and chainsaw file to make the cutouts look factory, but that is for another day.

And the reason I went with the power grab jaw.

Cool mod JonesE, but the PowerLock already comes with a 1/4-inch adapter that fits on the flat blade driver.

Looks like it  was a very productive day for the Powers ... love all the pictures, and the Powergrab pliers head mod is quite interesting and functional; I'll definitively be following along!
Congratulations to all.

Hi Alan, Yeah I know. The main reason for the mod is that the bit is inline with the handle. Where the 1/4” adapter is off center. I also don’t have to open the tool.  Now I can just drop a bit or bit extension in and go. Also, the PowerGrab jaw fills the open space in the handle when closed. It also gives you a place to rest your thumb while driving a bit. I know this mod is not for everyone. I already had the plier jaw sitting here since last November or so. I figured I would give it a go and see how it would work for me.

Next mod, I think will be dropping a Super Tool 300 file in. I ready need to do something about the existing file.

How about a Simonds file from an early Gerber.  Those were great files if you happen to have an early Gerber?

Too bad about the slip and the subpar file. And what needed a new fuel filter, Barry?

This has been a great challenge to follow. I'll continue to do so as time permits.

I'm going to do it once the challenge is complete and I'll let you know here.

The fuel filter is on our garden tractor Dan.  It's about the last maintenance friendly piece of equipment I have left!
