Combo Edge 30 Day Challenge - 2/1/2025 - 3/2/2025

The Fourth Annual Combo Edge Challenge
For the fourth year in a row, I will be hosting the Combo Edge Challenge.  In February through March (a combo of months) we will challenge ourselves by using a partially serrated blade on a folding knife or multitool. 

They aren't popular among the enthusiasts, but they are preferred among most daily users.  Many good tools have a combo edge blade and most of us have at least one in our collection.
Here are some common ones...
LM Signal,
Swisstool Spirit (with butter blade),
Leatherman MUT,
Benchmade Griptillian,
SOG Powerlock
Victorinox Soldier or 111mm
Skeletool
Gerber MP 400


This is your chance to take out the knife or multitool that has a partially serrated blade that you haven't used much and put it through its paces.  You'll even get a badge out of it!

I have a one-hand Trekker that would be great for this challenge, but I'm committed to the modular tool challenge. Perhaps I'll double up.

I'm undecided between the two, maybe you could mod in a combo edge to something. I carried an 08 Soldier last year IIRC, and really enjoyed it. The 111s are fantastic EDCs.

I know I have one that I used to EDC but I think I have several Wengers, and maybe even a SAK, with a combo blades.  Let me see if I can find where I left them.  Too many hiding places around the house.

Good to be back Gary, I'll send you a pm to catch up in a bit....

So wet your appetite here are a few of my favorite non multi tools (if you don't count the SAK)



The Benchmade grip 550 sold me on part serrated edges.....I worked out that as a right handed person, the serrations in the 550 orientation is brilliant for feather sticks.... until that point I really didn't see the use of them, and although I had a Leatherman MUT (which I love and in my mind the best hard use multi tool they have done), I resented the blade.

Spoiler - For the challenge and practical use the Leatherman C33TX is a gem of a tool, and you may see a lot of it.



Being honest with myself, if I had to pick just one, the Victorinox Soldier is brilliant, and my car carry bladed tool.

   I think there are enough people here to find out what happened to friend Aztec's combo blade pockey knife.  Dim the lights.  Everyone join hands. That's not my hand.  Let's begin.  Kalahari, mocha latte, mecka lecka hi, mecka.... wait I am beginning to see....  Yes, I see a dog holding what looks like a knife in his jaws.  And he's digging.  Digging.  What is he digging?  Now he is dropping something down in the hole.  Yes, he put the knife down into the hole.  Where is the hole?  Kalahari, show me the hole.  Well, the vision is fading. 
   The knife may be found in a rabbit hole in Aztec's back yard.  Unfortunately, there seem to be lots and lots and lots of rabbit holes around his place.  Plus, all the jack-a-lope holes.....

Sounds fun challenge to complete, i have combo edged blades like Skeletool, PST2, OHO GAK, Soldier 08, Spirit (butterblade), Ranger 179, MP800 and Freestyle. Basicly also Wingman but my better half has taken it. I gotta think joining this challenge bit before i decide to participate.

I found my two Wengers with combo edges.  I believe I have 2 more but they're currently in the Sad SAK Saturday camp until I can give them the TLC they deserve.

 :like:  There’s the common thought in the MT / EDC circles that combo edges aren’t good for anything and are only a marketing gimmick. I’m hypothesizing that anything that needs doing can get done with a combo edge and a little finesse
