Day 29 and PAPERCLIP challenge

Harder than it looks, took a team effort.

Imagination, small pliers offer very little leverage, yet have many sharp edges to create hot spots.

When I made my post this morning, I thought that the paperclip challenge must have been called off.  And nobody told me.  I liked the two holding hands especially.
I am waiting on a package, I think.  It was scheduled to come yestiddy, but didn't.  It spent three days in Detroit.  Probably used it for playing H-O-R-S-E using a trash can for a goal.  Then it went to Charlotte, NC and finally is in Greenville, SC.  It has been there a couple of days.  The estimated arrival date went from Thursday, to Friday, back to Thursday, and finally was just taken down altogether.  Might get here by next Tuesday.  I think Monday is a day off for the post office.
Best wishes.

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

This is trend,  three weeks ago, a package started in New Jercy somewheres, then spent a couple days  and a weekend in Teterboro, NJ, then was lost, showing up a couple days later in Indianapolis, then sat again awaiting a ride north to Fort Wayne.  A 15 day odyssey.!

Another package started in mid Michigan, moved smoothly, then stopped about 40 minutes away, then a day later moved south to Indy. There it set the entire weekend and on Monday it started moving north and arrived on Wednesday.  All the while an item from South Carolina made its way to me in three days, tow of which were a weekend.  :dunno:

So I suspect if auto sorting is working packages move. If a fault occurs, rejects likely only checked every few days.   And, here my insurance wants me to trust USPS to deliver  medication, not  me!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Ok folks, we don't have any paperclips around here, so I'm officially bowing out of the mini challenge today.

I was able to retrieve some mail, from the box, and got to open up another package this morning.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

What should be a straightforward shipment seems to be a cross country excursion.  I've asked the USPS to explain why my package is going west, and not east.

They've not given an answer and my fossils are still missing.

I understand the lack of paperclips situation.  I had to search for one myself.  I just got an update on my parcel.  It is sitting in the post office two miles from my house.  Does that mean that I could go pick it up?  Not on your life.  I have tried that before.
Pit, I think I have figured out what went wrong with your package.  It is headed out into the Pacific by floatplane for the Caroline Islands.  Earlier this year I got one that had been shipped back and forth between two centers a couple of times.  Maybe Raleigh and Charlotte, I forget.
Best wishes.  G

Day 29
Used pliers to pull out the dropper piece so I could refill the Benadryl gel in my edc first aid kit.

For the mini challenge, didn’t have a paper clip so used some thin wire to make a dog.

Actually I think the real challenge would be to get the Dime to actually cut a paperclip with the wire cutters   I just tried and failed

Day 30

A most fun challenge which has confirmed to me just how much I can get by with keychain sized tools much of the time, something I’ve been fairly convinced of having carried a Rambler everywhere with me for many years

I wouldn’t want to rely on them out in the bush or on a building site, but day to day back and forth to the office etc, fantastic

Many thanks to our excellent host Barry :hatsoff: you always run a top challenge good sir.
Also many thanks to my fellow travellers, we’ve been in many challenges together over the years and always enjoy your pics and comments

The mini challenges were particularly good fun and made me actually use my tool properly  :twak:

Of my tools the PS4 reigns supreme, not sure it could be much bettered tbh. I prefer it to the P4 for the scissors but also feels more snappy.

As much as the Dime gets mixed reviews I’ve always liked it. The bottle opener beats almost any other MT regardless of size, the package opener works well and the blade being a little wider did a very good job sharpening a stick.

I’ve rarely used the pliers as I’ve always got something larger when I’d need them but as fancy tweezers they seem fine, I can see people’s miles have varied here!

Day 30

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
I had a horrible dream.  Well, by my horrible dream standards, not all that bad.  A bunch of people who were MTo members pulled up in my yard.  I seem to recall there were eight of them, but it seemed like more.
I told the group, as they were milling around, that I didn't have chairs for this many people but we could talk outside.  I was fascinated that a large round area in my yard had stuff growing four feet high.  One plant looked like a clover, but the leaves were two feet across.  I wanted to take a photo of it with a pocketknife.
AzteCypher found a chair on the porch and was talking to a friend.  He brought me something, but I don't remember what.  I spoke with one fellow and asked his MTo name.  He said it was Racer, or maybe Razor.  I noticed that most of the people had black eyes.  I immediately thought, these are a bunch of vampires.
I asked several how they came to be with the MTo crowd, and got answers that didn't make any sense.  I asked an old man and woman what were their favorite tools.  They looked at each other like it was a strange question.  I looked around some more.  Two people were herding around a cadaverous young man.  I pushed him in the chest and he crunched like he was made of a bag of dried out leaves.  I said something to him and he went away.  Meanwhile the old man and woman exclaimed together that their favorite tool was 'Aetna'.  Well, Aetna I wasn't glad I metcha.  I kept looking around and asking questions.  I thought, if anybody has to go to the sandbox, I'm not letting any of these people in the house.  I don't remember much more.  There might have been a dog.

Day 30

Everyone, thank you all for participating in this challenge!  I've learned a lot in the past 30 days.  I know now that I could get by with just a Dime, most of the time.  It's a good tool that's so close to being a great tool, with a little finesse.  One thing I've learned over the years of challenges is that I rarely use the pliers on a PBMT.  I can also say that when I head out without a pair of pliers, that's exactly the day I need them!  My Dime is heading back to it's spot in my Camelback beside my No. 8 Outdoor, where it rides in case I need a pair of pliers.   I've loved seeing all these mini tools in action, and always love the creativity of the participants.  I'm looking forward to getting my other tools out again!
Well done, everyone!

Day 30.  :woohoo:

I honestly did not think I could survive 30 days in this challenge.

The SOG Clip Tool’s pliers just were too blunt and hard for my old hands to use or hold properly.

The LM PS, even though the pliers do work well and it travels with me paired with a MICRA, I kept the MICRA out of play. Doing so, I discovered the scissors are not a good fit as a knife alternative and knew why I paired it with the MICRA.

THE SHEFFIELD (a pawn shop find) was getting me by, yet the size and my hand size (XXL), created some fails.

I almost broke down and against my better judgement I looked on the River site for a DIME,  🥺.
Instead a suggest by an AI operative kept suggesting I really needed a NexTool and showed several flavors…

So I made a decision based on price and features. The S11 in blue.  Knife blade and pliers were the factors that swayed me and I thought I found a tool nobody else had… WRONG, day of delivery PowerNoodle showes his, RPRoberts and SOS24 each shared pictures of their NexTools.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I am happy with this early challenge purchase and it shared duty with the SHEFFIELD.   Allowing me to continue till the finish line.
I carried one of these two every day for errands, and carried in the sheath in the pictured.

Great job by every body, and enjoyed the mini challenges  within the challenge.

Also, a special mention to GARY!  His SwissTool Pliers perseverance is to be admired.  No knife, he still made his point.  :hatsoff:

Great job to BARRY for hosting and be our cheerleader.

Gary, again, for his tales from high in the North Carolina countryside.

I guess that today is the last day for most of you folks.  I started 4 days late, so I still have 4 glorious days ahead of me.   :woohoo:  Please don't be jealous.

Powernoodle Day 30

Every day, I try to get into my body - usually through my mouth  - healthful, medicinal foods to counteract some of the naughty foods I eat.  These include cruciferous veg, 1 tablespoon of fish oil, 1+ tablespoon of olive oil, frequent sardines, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder [in 1 cup of almond milk, heated, with Stevia], frequent cherries or blueberries, mixed nuts, etc.  Frequent sunlight is also part of the equation, especially first thing in the morning.

Day 30, already?
I'm surprised to have a couple packages in the box today, but I haven't been out there yet.
After 30 days of playing around with some of my keychain based plier tools I'm back to my PowerPint.
When ít comes to pliers I really don't like them to be spring loaded,  So, I'm finishing up with it, today.

Day 30

Wow, it is almost the end of August. I can’t believe how fast this month has gone by. For the month, the Dime did a great job for me. It did well pulling telecon staples from the siding of our house. The blade and package opener are my two favorite implements on the tool. I didn’t have the best of luck with the scissors and it failed the parachord test. I don’t think I ever used the drivers or the bottle opener. I may have to get a bottle of root beer or Mexican coke and give it a try. Overall, I did enjoy carrying the Dime for the past month. I am glad I put the parachord lanyard on it, making it easier to get it out of the pocket more quickly. I don’t think I would ever put it on a keychain.

Thank Barry for hosting a fun challenge. It has been a blast hanging out with you all this past month.

I read the requirements and didn't see something that would disqualify the challenge contestants from applying for the Keychain Badge.  Maybe you know something I don't.  (That wouldn't be a very high hurdle)  I decided at the start to try for the Bladeless Multitool badge, so I already applied for that one.  I think you did a great job, badge or no badge.  Best wishes.  Gary

Day 30
For the final day I thought I would do a group photo.

Some thoughts one the individual tools

Leatherman Squirt PS4 - To me this is the best in class while also being the smallest.  It is so small but packs a lot of utility. It is a shame it was discontinued.

Gerber Dime - The package opener is the star of this tool.  It works really well, which can also help keep the knife blade sharp.  I wish the scissors worked better but they aren’t awful.

Leatherman PS Style - This is my favorite bladeless tool.  It works well at what it does do.  Again a shame Leatherman discontinued.

Nextool Mini Fagship - I was pleasantly surprised with how much I like this tool.  It is especially nice if you are a big scissor user (think micra scissors added to PS4), which I am.  The drivers are longer than on other keychain tools, which could be a benefit or hinderance depending on situation.

Thanks Barry for hosting.  This challenge was fun and a reminder that a tool does not have to be big and heavy to be useful.
