I've got a confession to make: I have never watched and entire episode of MacGyver.

However, I have been called MacGyver because I always have a SAK, MT, or knife, and I have broken into a locked thermostat with a paperclip and reset the AC.

I'm in!

You should rectify that, there are some real stinker episodes but overall it's a fun show and with some truly excellent episodes. I always like the ones with Jack Dalton.

The list is getting pretty long. Anybody know what the record for most people we've had in a challenge?

I remember one with a Swiss Army Knife, that had about 32 I think. This was a while ago.

There were 31 on the MTo Anniversary Challenge last July.  One more joined in late to make it 32.  Probably not a record.  Best wishes.  Gary

Having very recently finished re-watching every episode of the original MacGyver, one thing I noticed about it is that Mac mostly carried pretty simple SAK models.

There were less than a handful of episodes that I saw a 4 layer model. Sometimes I would see a Climber or Camper. But, by far, he carried 2 layers models more than anything else. So, Spartans/Standards/Tourists, Tinkers, and the Recruit (the Compact only made one or two appearances that I saw).

So for me, I think part of this challenge will be a “back to basics” mentality. I’ve gotten used to carrying a Deluxe Tinker around all the time… So, like MacGyver, I am going to restrict myself to mostly 2 layer SAKs.

Others should do what makes them happy, but I think this will be a fun twist on it.

I was thinking the same possibly restricting to just the Tinker if I can bring myself to buy one.

I need to buy another box of paper clips I know I’m going to lose them all.

I'm sure the show is streaming somewhere.  Maybe that will be part of my challenge.

We don't use paperclips in our house because we're overprotective dog owners.  One of our dogs ate a different type of clip.  All came out OK  ;) but it was a scary night.

The only one we have is wound through the corkscrew of this Climber.

I suppose I will jump in and give it a go.

So far it will be the Minichamp...bit this may give me reason to pick something else up.

A Spartan or Tinker can definitely be bought for a reasonable price and would certainly be in the spirit of the challenge. If you’re willing to buy gently used I have gotten great deals on SAKs on the “big auction site” too.

And don’t forget the Climber if you want scissors. It’s such a popular model, there are always good deals on used ones out there.

Pluto TV doesn’t have all of them, but it does have 5 seasons streaming for free

:iagree: That looks like a really cool way to carry a paperclip.  Although, if I do that might have to remove my helix tinder and definitely couldn’t carry a Fireant.

You could always attach a paperclip to the keyring or keyring nub.  I always use a paperclip with a shoestring tied to it as a lanyard when I carry a 58mm SAK.

I checked Jussmurfch.com and MacGyver is leaving Pluto in 11 days!   :ahhh

However, I got a deal on Paramount, which is supposed to have all seven seasons.  I could probably get by with three episodes.  I take two allergy meds before before bedtime, which is when I watch TV.  I'm lucky to see five minutes of something before I'm out.

You should probably try to watch an episode of two of the 2016 series.  That way you can appreciate the earlier series more.  I watched year 3 Blow Out episode yestiddy and Kill Zone from the 1984 series.  I tried to watch the newer series, but couldn't hack it.  Best wishes.  G

I started watching the pilot episode of MacGyver last night, and I'm going to have to dial my expectations back to 1985, I think.  Maybe the hook is that it's so hokey, but everybody knows it?

I'll bite, count me in. I don't carry SAKs nearly enough. Plus I can only imagine the uses that the paperclip and duct tape will get.

Any kind of sticky tape will be allowed. Duct, duck, Gorilla, platypus, snail. Whatever adhesive tape you have.  :tu:

I'll take you up on that including insulation tape (which , being a sparky by trade, I regularly have on hand, and have used to save the day more than a few times :D )
With a challenge title like that , how can I not be in with my Tinker small which I was lucky enough to buy last year before they stopped making it.

Most definitely in. I am traveling internationally the first 4 days of the month and so might get a late start. Will check local laws and if no issues carrying, I should be able to post. This will be fun!
