Day 15:

I have a scratched cornea from a piece of grit that got in my right eye while I was working on my car on Saturday. It feels like I have a grain of sand in my eye when it’s closed, but it’s very sensitive to light when it’s open. I was constantly squinting and my right eye kept watering.

So in the true spirit of MacGyver, I used my duct tape to make an eye patch and raided the office supply room for rubber bands. It actually worked! It allowed me to keep my right eye open without exposing it to light.

Nice Macgyvering, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Had that happen to me a year or so ago, at a baby shower.  All I had was a Pioneer in my pocket when asked if I had a SAK.   The grandmothers wanted wine.

I produced the Pioneer, a young lady, college age, grabbed it a said that will work!
Followed her to the kitchen area. She opened the AWL, carefully inserted into the cork, working back and forth till about half the AWL was visible and then closed the handle 90 degrees for leverage and unscrewed the cork from the bottle, easy peasy😜

I have since seen the same done with a clip point blade on a pocket knife and a pen blade of another.

But I prefer the cork screw has first option, for corks and wet knots. A AWL is secondary!

I've heard of people doing similar. In the end, they had a corkscrew, and I wasn't feeling that adventurous (even though that Hiker is my designated "bad idea" knife).

Day 17

Bladeless Climber? opened some ginger beer.

Splashed out on a Patagonia nano puff jacket.
I'm done with jackets for now, but I'll go one of two ways with them: buy a Carhartt jacket if/when the need arises or be done with them entirely (upon moving to warmer pastures). You oughta get a lot of use out of that one!

Someone is spending a bunch of money on little bottles of Bootlegger.
Sounds like straight-up rotgut to me. And don't get me started on littering!

Yikes!  Swift recovery and great MacGyvering.

Day 16 - cat up

We made french bread pizza's for dinner so I needed to open up a can of pineapple.  (Yup, I'm one of those weirdos.)  I swear I'm much better at opening cans with the Wenger can opener.  I need a lot more practice with the Victorinox can opener than I realized.

Day 17

I was upstairs getting some stuff done in my office when I hear a racket downstairs.  I run downstairs thinking one of the felines had done something dumb again.  Turns out it was the poor robovac.  Not sure where he (his name is Mr. Belvedere) got caught but he had ripped one of his brushes off.  The Climber helped get him back in action.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 17:
First day of spring break and took full advantage.  Took a 3 hour nap with my 2yo and watched it snow off and on from my recliner the rest of the day. Only SAK use was changing some toy batteries with the Super Tinker  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Day 17

Group shot for today.

hsherzfeld gets my nod for creative use. For a MacGyver Challenge, there has been a big lack of SAK use to diffuse a bomb or emergency tracheotomies with the awl.

58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive (2)
85mm: Traveler, Delemont S10, Bass
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer

Day 18
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Leftover rotini and some french fries.  Tinker cut open a new bag of store brand crinkly potato pieces.  Does anyone remember the following dialogue from a classic horror movie?
"Do you like lamb, Doc?"
"No."
"Well what's your favorite food then?"
"French fries with ketchup."

I consumed all the fries, and left some pasta for the vermin to fight over.  I piddled with my Cub and got it running.  Hooray!  Mowed a little while, but didn't have much gas on hand.  Best wishes.  G

DAY 18  A GITD Climber seems like a handy thing to have if you're defusing bombs in the dark.

Thanks, Gary. :) They are fancy paper clips I found at a store in its gift wrapping area. I just thought they looked nice, and would fit the challenge? :D
