Fire making at winter (badge request)
on: January 12, 2025, 11:11:39 AM
I challenge my self to make fire using nothing but my multitool and the small ferro rod and fire helix tinder in it. The ground is snow covered, so there is no way I'm going to find any twigs to get the fire started.

Let see how it goes.

It took me two tries and two helix tinders to get the fire going.  Good to know that that those are not just expensive gimmicks. Helix took a spark really fast burned quite a long time. I carrie both ferro rod and helix tinder every day with me, but haven't really put those to the test.

And know when my frozen fingers are melted I can share with you my other fire making equipments.

Nice photos.  I wondered why you brought so many weenies (sausages), but then I thought about the big wolfy dog.  That answered that question.  Best wishes.  G

The right answer is that hungry husband ate half of those.

Next time you decide to cook something outside, there is an Outdoor Cooking Award.  It seems like you are accumulating several nice badges.  Having some fun is what this is all about.  Best wishes.  G

Thanks Gary, but I don't think I need to accumulate several badges from one posting.  It's much more fun this way. Outdoor cooking badge is sure coming soon.

Multiple badges from one post is not possible.  Just so you know.  Best wishes.  G

Looks like a good time was had by all. My dog would hate being outside in such conditions. Congratulations on the badge!

Well done! I'm awlways a little affraid those thin firerods will break. I'd get a piece of wood to rest them on before striking them, to offer more support.
