Gary, that actually sounds a lot like the last camp site I was at. Houses across the street, just enough woods to be semi private, river band a couple yards away.  No horse statues though.

Yeah, I haven't seen too many horse statues lately either.  Maybe the horses are symbolic?  Maybe even prophetic?  Could have been the zucchini?  Best wishes.  G
MINI CHALLENGE Just a reminder to remember the Monday mini challenge.  Post 'Fire and Light'.  Fire starter and a light source.  See my earlier post for details.  I had a jar full of extra points from last year's challenge.  G

DAY 8

Been crazy busy and any free time was non existent...but I have been carrying belt items, but has been hard to find a moment to take a picture, so a number of the catch ups are staged photos of what I have been carrying on the belt, where possible...

...so what I have bushcraft batman belt, it's slowly getting items put into and on it...

DAY 11

Scrub bashing, got the thick leather belt I made out, the condor parang doesn't go on a belt, so I had to do a strange cord loop, that I had to cut away to free myself.

The leather belt loop was made for an axe, but too big, so added a leather stand off to lock in place a mora knife....this works really well

DAY 12

Had a brief moment to take a picture of the carving belt kit....I have a bushcraft carving kit too, but I was doing chip carving of a robin for my smallest girl

The Carothers was used quite a bit with the robin carving, not the best, but did the job.

Day 12 of 30

Today carried Cudeman Mini-BV & Sportsman, received these both from EU Gaw box and decided to try carry these. Cudeman helped me to prep some food today and it performed greatly.

Day 11

My daily watch for the last 4yrs or so Citizen ProMaster Dive, and a fake Tread I got last Christmas.

But the real under rated utility item is the 3 keepers on the watch band...the humble Scunci hair band.
Anywhere you would use a rubber band these are usualy superior. The outer spandex-whatever protects the bungie core so they don't stick, melt, cut or randomly snap as near easily.
I usually have half a dozen scattered  throughout my edc.

Day 11:

Had a bit of a tangle on the 3D printer's reel (cheap PET-G filament), and I couldn't find the flush cuts, so a recently-acquired pair of vintage Klein 6-inch linesman's with stripper notches did the trick. Despite being about 70+ years old and a little rough, they still work like new.  This size carries great in a pocket. I had meant to make these a collection tool, but these feel great in the hand, and the stripper notches fit most small-gauge stuff I use with hobbies great.

Date code is O-E-EK. I have only trained myself on post-'72 date codes--that's when they started stamping the knives with the year code--thus I know nothing about the earlier systems. I was told early '50s when I bought them.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Gotta admit, drying filament, and figuring out what's the best support system (most stuff like this works best with trees--it's easier to pull off without breaking part of the print by accident)  and infill (still figuring that out) has helped me get small horses just right. Didn't break the legs taking off the supports, either! However, my Klein flush cutters suck--better than the junky ones that came with the printer, but they're  not that sharp. . Xuron or something from Knipex ought to do nicely.

Did this one in PET-G (I've found matte gray PLA and .12 does wonders for small detail) and may have accidentally done it as .25 instead of .12. I do think I need to get a .25 nozzle on order, as .4 and super-fine details don't mix--plus it's capable of almost half the layer height attainable by .4.   I have seriously considered buying a resin printer (there's some very modestly priced sub-$200 models I've  looked at) for the fine detail miniatures, but I really don't need a second one, and I hear resin printing is someone of a pain in the rear.

You still need to sand rough spots out. I've found these nail files, with like 7 different grits and backed with a soft foam, work surprisingly well.

Day 12

Stockman opened some tent stakes.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Had to use a mallet to put them in. Probably better off with a single headed axe with a hammer on the other side. (Although swinging them can make me a little nervous.)

Day 13

Now I know why nobody can find a compact sized Leatherman.  Echo has hoarded them all.  I expect there might be one or two that will show up in the Keychain Challenge.  Echotech's tentacles haven't reached to the wilds of North America yet.  Maybe.
More fireworks last night as the morons celebrated July 12th last night.  Every single day has at least a half dozen pseudo holidays.  Avocado Day.  Gum Wrapper Nostalgia Day.  Not sure what the big deal was last night.
How about a picture of an Opi at Walmart?  This includes the exciting Blue Rhino propane lockers and the plastic kayak display.  Remember to do something special for Harrison Ford's Birthday today.  No fireworks.
Best wishes.  G

Day 13

10 inch Irwin Vice Grip.

My father is a handyman. He can do all sort of electrical things, pipe works etc. When I was a kid, one day I went off to study room, and back there is a pile of demolished bricks and concrete for me to carry to the dump area.

Spanners, diagonal cutting pilers, locking pilers, needle nose pilers. I was always ready to hand him the tools he needed in his toolbox.

This locking piler is a made in US vice grip that he passed to me. "They no longer make them I like they used to." he said.

The jaw has show a lot of usage along with some rust on it. I am not even 1% as handy as he is. But I removed the rust and try to take good care of it, till I need it.
