Day 23

OM system LS-P5

I use this to record lectures. Also as a flac/lossless music player. 2 AAA batteries last like 12+hours recording... or playback. Honestly I don't know, just last forever.

I'm guessing it's interacting with a firewall or something, but this is what my current MTO ads look like:

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And, if I can toot my own horn a little, I think this tutorial is a nice upgrade for a Svord (beautiful knives, I should get more. Have we ever done a peasant/penny/friction folder challenge?)

In hindsight, two half hitches would probably be sufficient where the tautline is, but we awl have our favorite pet knots.

For a while I got ads for shoes that helped seniors maintain their balance.  I'm waiting for an ad that has someone in a Bikni who likes to operate weedwackers.  I could make her lawn maintenance fantasies come true.  Grrrrr.  I'd sit on my porch and watch her SWING that Stihl.  Best wishes.  G

Hey Bob, is that Svord a full-size Peasant or the Mini-Peasant?  I wish mine were the mini actually.  The big one is just a little long for a pocket.  I looked at the Svord Economy Hunting Knives yestiddy.  I suppose economy is a relative term.  So far, I have done more Opinelling than Svording.  Both of these things are really efficient cutters.  Best wishes. Day 23

Trying something different today. Bought an EDC hip pouch of Temu like 6 months ago and never tried it out. Seeing I've got a surgery coming up in weeks I figured it would be a good time to try this thing out. Having my right arm in a sling is going to cause some issues with how I carry my gear. Putting everything on the side of the available arm is a good way to make things work. I'm not left handed so there's many challenges ahead but I'm going to make the best of it. Inside this pouch I've got my usual gear that's either in my Maxpedition Platy or Leatherman holster. Opening my knives left handed etc is going to be strange but maybe I'll become ambidextrous after these 6 weeks. I'm at work and figured I would snap a few pics of the pouch.

Day 23

Kaevin posted an audio recorder. A great looking one too, btw.
Here's mine. A Zoom H2n. This little thing makes amazing audio recordings. I bought it when I was videoing guns firing and my camera severely clipped the audio. It requires more work to sync the audio and video, but it makes you feel like you are actually there.

I was rummaging through my challenge bag (for normal tool specific challenges) last night.  I first thought that it was one of my old Leatherman Micras but when I was putting it back saw that it was a SOG Crosscut tool that I had picked up years ago.

Compared to scissors from Victorinox, Leatherman and all, these are really pretty bad.  I'm not willing to invest in a newer model to test either.

I have one to, not that model or brand but a recorder. Had a lot of calls with my lawyer some time ago and they where often over an hour with a lot of information, she was a fast talker and to remember everything I started to record our calls. Might be something for day 24

Being right handed, there are certain things that I'd suggest that you practice on, before the surgery.
No one thinks about it, before hand, but it's definitely gonna make your time easier if you do.

You can still get them here on Ebay, both the real ones and reproduction. I don't know why anyone would bother with a repro, but apparently some do. You can also get the 100 Trillion dollar notes but they cost about 60 USD which is more than I want to pay.

That can of powder looks just like the Winchester branded powders here; same colors and everything.

I'll check around here, there should be a few bills still floating around.
My 1 shot at being a billionaire

That's pretty cool. This is the last can I have from a few I bought some years back, these come in plastic bottles now. I've used Hogdon Titegroup which is similar.
So far I've only used Vitavuori for rifle loading.

Mine is the mini. I don't have the full size one, but I'm inclined to agree that it's probably a bit too large for EDC. I believe it's a bit bigger than a Buck 110, which is pretty hefty for most pockets already.

Day 23

Gave blood today. My goal is to make it up to quarterlyish. I was on the two month rotation in undergrad, and I'm starting back up.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

For our Nessmuk today, I'm moving into Forest Runes, his poetry book. He gives a bit of backstory (though he claims he was forced to), including a bit about the origin on his pen name:

Quote
The word Nepmuk, or, as it is sometimes spelled, Nepmug, means Wood-duck. This,
in the obsolete lingo of the once powerful Narragansetts. The best Indian of the band
was “Injun Levi,” as the whites called him. He was known among his tribe as
“Nessmuk;” and I think he exerted a stronger influence on my future than any other
man. As a fine physical specimen of the animal man I have seldom seen his equal. As a
woodsman and a trusty friend he was good as gold; but he could not change the Indian
nature that throbbed in every vein and filled his entire being.[...]

The Indians have passed away forever; and, when I tried to find the
resting place of my old friend, with the view of putting a plain stone above
his grave, no one could point out the spot.

And this is how I happen to write over the name by which he was
known among his people, and the reason why a favorite dog or canoe is
quite likely to be called Nessmuk.

This is a slight deviation from the version that I see more frequently, which says an Indian gave him the name when he was a kid.

Yeah, the new ones are plastic here too. But I do still have a few of the metal ones.
I've used one can of Titegroup, several years ago. But my go-to fast powders are Alliant Bullseye and Vihtavouri N310. Actually I've been using Bullseye since it was made by Hercules.

Day 22:

Boker USA 9215 "The Miner" and SOG Powerpint.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Personally, Boker and Case tied made the best hawkbills out of all US manufacturers. All of mine were issued by Pittston to my  Granddad and a buddy of mine sometime in the late '70s early '80s. This one was my Granddad's which had a broken tip that I reprofiled.

And my semi-matching mug a local paper gave out. Bought it at Goodwill--I'm guessing it was a Bluefield Coal Show premium a few years ago. It allowed me to retire my old one, advertising a business a buddy of my Granddad left the mines to found in the early '80s.

Day23
Here is some of the odd assortment of random knives that seem to have found their way to my workbench/tool shelves.

X-acto, Mora, Stanley, CaseXX, Compton Reliance, Aranyik, Dear Brand W. Germany, GoldSeal, random generics,  and many more...

I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Day 24 - here is my recorder. I use it for phonecalls, not that often anymore but when I need to remember everything from the call I usually do it and with that extra mic that I can put in my ear I don't need to have it on speakerphone. Works really good

Day 24

Looks like a good day to put my weedwacker in the truck and go clear out stuff down my driveway.  There is a big patch of something I don't recognize growing down there.  I think I will leave it alone until I figure out what it is.  Might take a photo in case there are any herbophiliacs here who can identify it.
Obligatory photo follows.  The little CASE looks pink in the photo but red in natural light.  Some colors just don't come out right in photos.  Blue mostly for me.  I thought I would join in on the peanut fun with friends JonesE.  That isn't rust on the blade tip, just a reflection of the wood handled Opinel.  Best wishes.  G

Is that a mic or earphone? I remember when I needed a mic and plug an earphone to the mic jack...

Before I have a recorder, I always thought a phone is all I need. But with a recorder I dont have to worry about space, it can playback in faster speed, and do not need to worry about battery and that is a big plus over a phone.

Here is the weed.  I noticed a smell around it like ragweed or something.  It is about 4 feet tall or a little more in spots.  If it were an English weed, I know friend Gra_Farmer would instantly recognize it.  Might just be a US thing or an invasive.  Let's see if there are any Weedologists out there.  Best wishes.  G
