New Cold Steel Demco Java Push Dagger
on: June 04, 2025, 01:08:44 PM
I love Cold Steel.  I love that they come out with some very cool, outlandish designs and make them work.  I have hadany CS products over the years, from the Desperado to several Bushmen (Bushmans?), folders, fixed blades, axes, hatchets, swords.... All kinds of weird and wonderful products.

But this one just screams "wall hanger" to me.  It looks like something that United Cutlery would make for sale at a gas station.

Maybe it has a target market, but for once, something weird from CS is not for me.

I would love to see someone explain in court wearing a county supplied orange suit how he just used the ugly thing to open stubborn potato chip bags and peel apples for needy children with it.  He would be eating TV dinners with a dull plastic spoon in my county for carrying the thing.  Personally, I wouldn't have it for a gift.  Best wishes.  G

Yeah, my thoughts exactly.

I often describe Fantasy knives that look over the top and are made from cheap pot metal as things that 15 year old kids but to scare their mothers.

Having one made from a proper steel and manufactured strong enough for the rigors of actual combat are.... Alarming to say the least.

A hokey design, plus being a per se dangerous weapon in Michigan, make it a no-go for me. Sorry, Cold Steel. Though I did think their Super Edge was a pretty decent neck knife.

Scoff now, but when the zombie apocalypse comes, y’all will be wishing you had the foresight to pick up a couple of these!

Joking aside, on some level I can appreciate that there are companies are still making functional bladed weapons, not just smurfy wall hangers.

Would I carry this one?  Definitely not (though I’m not sure that’s really the point).  For one thing, it probably meets the definition of an illegal knuckles knife here in PA.  For another, it’s not a practical cutting tool.  Finally, if/when I feel the need to go about armed, I’m better off both functionally and legally to just carry a pistol than something like that.

Well the design is certainly out there. Besides the legality in most places that have a semblance of adherence to laws, this screams weapon in every single aspect.
- daggers aren't very utilitarian, push daggers even less so
- kris is again not very utilitarian, at least to my knowledge,
- a 6" blade, outside of outdoor and kitchen activities, does tend to conjure up only one possible use

On one hand I would love to see it priced like United Cutlery just to mess with people
