OK, gotta get a disclaimer out first- there's no multitool content in the film.

There is however a lot of gratuitous tool use in Clint Eastwood's latest movie.  In one scene Squint is working in his garage when the neighbor's kid comes to see him and marvels at all the tools hanging on the walls.  Eastwood lectures him on how you start with a few tools and add some here and there as you need them, then hands the kid a can of WD-40, a set of vise grips and a roll of duct tape and tells the kid that most household problems can be solved with those three items.

Thinking about it as I have for the past 24 hours, I have to agree, and the repair job really depends on your own creativity or lack thereof.  The vise grips could also be used for a light duty hammer, you could use the WD-40 to locate leaks (smear it on and look for bubbles) then use the duct tape to fix them.  You could do that with pipes, windows.... just about anything.

For the last few months I have been marveling at the understated usefulness of my Leatherman Crunch, I keep a can of GUNK (similar to WD40) in the Jeep, and duct tape is something else I am not usually far from, but I never put the three of them together like that.  I think I may have to experiment down this road a little more...

I haven't seen this film yet, looks interesting! But yeah, I agree with you.. A lot of day to day tasks could be completed by having these items readily available!

I have found that it is best to get the good duct tape and not the cheap stuff. The adhesive isnt as good on the cheap stuff so splurge on the name brand. I have some in about everything I travel or use just in case.

I was looking for duct tape at Home Depot and all they had were $8 rolls of Gorilla tape.  I don't doubt it's adhesivness or overall quality...but my $1 made in USA "generic" duct tape works great for me :D

Though Gran Torino is a good movie in general, the "respect of tools" theme was what I liked best.  :D

Lately i've been using a nice videosite to view various movies, and one of them was Gran Torino.
I think it's one of Eastwoods better ones.

Not sure if it's allowed to post the link here, but the mods can always remove it if think it's necessary,

I've been EDCing my Crunch lately. I've been practicing the one hand opening technique and I'm quite good at it now. I also carry a few inches of duct tape in a spy capsule. Now, if I could only find a way to EDC some WD-40 I'd be set. They do make a small (about 1" dia X 4") container which I keep in mt tool bag but I'd need it to be much smaller to carry on my person.

I would add coat-hanger wire to the list of things that can fix 90% of the daily problems.

Excellent movie,  ending was a surprise but I guess that was the only was to end it.  Surprising how Eastwood manages to come up with such winners.

Yep they make a pocket sized spray bottle, and even a WD40 pen.

Check these out..I don't own one, but if it is designed to hold lighter fluid on your keychain...WD-40 shoulden't be a problem.

My dad used to carry something like that but smaller, he kept olive oil in it for anointing.

I bought a set of US made vise grips last year, having only had cheap ones before, they really are a joy to use :)

Yup my friend used to carry something like that too olive oil for anointing. But he switched to plastics, because sometimes the gasket brakes on the metal cylinder and the oil will leak all over his pocket.

I've been preaching the Gospel of Ducktape for years. It is, without a doubt, one of the greatest if not THE greatest multi-tool ever invented. That Gorilla tape is good stuff but most of the time I don't need that much. However I don't use the generic stuff either. I generally use the Duck brand duck tape but Scotch makes a good tape too.

I know many of you are believers in Duct Tape, but I"m afraid I am the follower of another path.
