Opens up some other possibilities. Where pepper spray is legal, add it to this product. You get some stopping power and the ability to identify the bad guys. Now, if you really want to screw with the bad guys, add dye to the expanding foam used for sealing around window and door jambs. Hard to hurt you if they gotta be busy clawing the stuff off their face to breath. Mike
Sorry gang.Looks like this may come under the Firearms Act list of Prohibited weapons:"Section 5 (1) (b) any weapon of whatever description designed or adapted for the discharge of any noxious liquid, gas or other thing.

You're probably right, but does it actually classify as a weapon? As it shouldn't cause any harm to the attacker, mearly make their life difficult?
What about a small can of spray paint? I mean, if it wasn't specifically designed as a defensive weapon it might fit the bill. Just carry around some art supplies like one small brush, or an old hinge to paint. Then one could argue there was nothing premeditated, that you just used what was at hand to defend yourself.Mike
Using that argument then things like CS, Pava etc would be legal as they too will not cause any harm to the attacker, mearly make their life difficult

Yes, I actually hold a Section 5 Firearms Certificate with an annual refresher (I teach it as well) for carrying CS, so before anyone else mentions it....No a Copper is not exempt

(Sorry if any one finds this dull and boring but i don't so )
HUUUUUUUGE Grey area.Theoretically I am covered Off duty. A recent Home Office circular even confirmed this for me recently. The argument would be1 - Travelling to a different Parade station so Transportation of CS in my vehicle to home etc would be viewed as OK2 - If I intervene in something off duty I am without PPE (Personal protective equipment) therefore I am only left with certain "Empty hand" tactics that include deadly force. If CS is carried I may be using a lesser force to achieve the same result. However, it would be a brave force that formally announces this

Not that i want/need one I'm just intrigued as i know shotgun licenses aren't hugely difficult to obtain (with a good reason obviously), but i guess this is a different kettle of fish?
So a SAK to a Spyderco then?
Flash...I know we live in different parts of the world, but I can not imagine doing out jobs without guns, going off-duty in your own jurisdiction were you run into people who you've arrested (and they do not like you) while being unarmed. I have the up-most respect for you continuing to do your job under such restrictions.
Def,True story-(by the way "true story" is usually code for B.S.) I arrested a guy for robbery, a week later he was in line at a fastfood restaurant telling his buddy about his arrest....I was in line behind. So yes I went unrecognized. I have had many others that did recognize me. Even though I serve in a community of about 65,000 we usually deal with the same sorts so after 15 years I find I am recognized much more often.
