Did Nix do any on the first round?
He sure did.

But I wonder if we can pick up one shot badges while in the midst of a challenge? That never occurred to me. It would be nice if we can.
Yes, we can. I'll see if can work out such a mini-challenge.

I think I would like to throw my name in for this challenge. I think the list looks like:

1.FX-
2. Barry Rowland- 111mm RAF Hunter
3. BPRoberts-
4. WECSOG- 111mm
5. IMR4198- 108mm
6. Sos24 - US Combat Knife
7. Tuisto

As an aside I finally found a birth year Soldier (to go along with my mom's birth year Soldier which she didn't want  — I don't think I'm great at picking gifts for non-knife people. And my wife's culture has a superstition whereby one should not give as a gift a bladed item, so that cuts her side out of such gifts, no pun intended). Bizarrely, my birth year Soldier smells something awful, almost like old, corroded steel vel. sim. but it did come with a really cool sleeve! I was also wondering whether, for such challenges, one is prohibited from carrying any SAK except for the one used for the challenge?

I had two cellidor SAKs that really stank.  Washed in hot water and dish soap.  Didn't help.  I put them in a zip lock bag with coffee.  That stopped up the works and REALLY stank.  Finally I washed all the coffee out of the nooks and crannies and soaked the SAKs in Vitalis.  (Hair tonic that is mostly olive oil, I think.)  That worked and the Vitalis scent is almost gone now too.  Best wishes.  G

Oh good Lord — my mom is '66, not '65 like on the knife! Maybe that's why she didn't want it? She was upset her idiot son forgot when she was born...

I think I would try the hot water and soap first.  I wasn't really advising anyone to use Vitalis.  On the other hand, the Vitalis won't hurt anything.  I think it is scented olive oil.  I didn't actually leave my SAKs in the Vitalis.  Just wiped them down in and out with the stuff then dried everything out with a paper towel.  The scent fades when you carry it a while and it airs out.  Victorinox advises olive oil for oiling the joints on a SAK.  Definitely don't do the coffee trick.   :D
Best wishes.  G

Yes...but then again, I don't expect you to misuse or abuse a tool.

A scrub w/ a baking soda paste (or a mild baking soda adjacent cleaner like Oxyclean) might be worth a try.

Would you wash it in water and then scrub with like a teethbrush inside and out with the baking soda paste/Oxyclean?

I don't think you'd need to wash it in water first, but I don't see how it could hurt.

Trying to decide if I should take my keychain knife off for this one... Not being able to trim my nails or whatever when I'm out for three months is gonna suck. Maybe I'll switch to a Micra or something so the soldier is my only SAK.

Day 1 or D Day or Jan 31

Whatever the protocol is supposed to be.  Troops couldn't land on their designated beach today.  They had to turn back their landing craft because nobody could figure out where the LZ was with snow on the ground.  All the landmarks were covered.  Fortunately, the pillboxes on shore were snowed under, so there was no return fire.  It is suspected that enemy forces manning them were huddled around their hobo stoves making some really strong coffee and cursing their inadequate supply of winter gear.
Snow on the ground here and more coming down as near as I can tell in the dark.  How about a photo of a GAK doing pull-ups before the snow.  It was nice yesterday.  Best wishes.  G

Additional use, opening some foam “yoga blocks” that got delivered.

I’ve been diagnosed with bulging disks and bone spurs in my neck which is cause nerve impingement and spinal stenosis. So my right thumb has either been numb or tingly since July, and my right arm had been going pins-and-needles tingly depending on how I moved my neck. In an effort to hopefully avoid life-altering surgery, I’ve done 6 weeks of physical therapy and am now doing multiple exercises a day to strengthen my neck and back and correct posture. The yoga block is for one of the posture correction exercises.

Dog photos are always welcome.  Not a chance for any groundhog to get out of his den tomorrow and look for a shadow.  About 7 inches of snow and maybe some ice probably will keep the critter indoors.  Single digits tonight.  Best wishes.  G

I agree 💯.  We're dog lovers here!  Gus, those blocks are great.  I have a terrible time with my hips and hamstrings giving my lower back grief.  I'm hoping you're in great shape again soon!

Ah, I'll be sure to take some photos with dogs, then, instead of the dragon. Hilariously, his vet mentioned that he's "exceptionally long, even for a Corgi," which my wife and I got a huge kick out of.

I didn't say anything about the green blocks because I never saw any before.  Don't really know what they are for.  Didn't look edible....  Must be something to put under your pillow or something.  Best wishes.  G

D-Day

Didn't realize we were starting today, but I guess that works out so it's 90 days on April 30th. Smart move on (I assume) Nix's part.

Front and back of Ol' Red, so we can come back and see the wear after 30 days. I expect those red scales will be quite a bit more scuffed up.

Sure looks like it! I've been enduring sub-freezing temps for way too long.

We are off to a great start. y'awl stay warm!

D-Day

My chosen carry. I love this thing, so 90 days with it ain't gonna be much of a challenge.

Day 2

Temps down in the dingle fidgits this morning.  Brrrr.  I usually try to cook a big pot of beans during bouts of cold weather.  Warms up the kitchen and warms the tummy eventually.  I didn't hear anything trying to make it down the road across from Werecoyote Trail last night.  I don't think there has been any scraping or salting yet, so travel is beyond hazardous.  Snow up here isn't like in the flat parts of the country.  Narrow, crooked roads.  Steep grades.
I did hear the werecoyote screaming out his horror movie sound effects about 5AM.  Can't freeze out that thing.  How about a photo of some steamy hot black-eyed peas?  Best wishes.  G

We dodged the snow, but it's still bitter here. Braved it to go to the diner, and my wife's jelly didn't have the peel tab. Ol' Red made it awlright.

I generally take a break from whatever I am doing and go to MTO.  Then I click the New Replies.  If there is something I am interested in, I check it out.  I just noticed that when I get the New Replies list there is an icon on the left of each item in the list.  Smiley face, document icon, paper clip.  Didn't used to be there.  On the boards, those icons were always there for each thread, but not under the New Replies list.  Strange.  And useless.  Best wishes.  G

Here's what I think I'll be carrying for 90% of the Soldier challenge. My issue with the light is that even when it's switched to the 'off' position, it'll still get switched into the 'on' position and then turn on sometimes. Also, bonus photo of the doggo, since he was looking so cute and definitely wasn't just cuddling because he knows that's a good way to get snacks. He's actually my sister's dog; she asked me and my wife to look after him for three weeks. That was January 2023. I dare say he may be with us permanently, which we certainly don't mind.

On your Wuhen, just slide the side switch down to turn off. That prevents it from turning on accidentally.

To turn on slide the switch up and press the button for the mode.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
