I like tools with usable scissors...
on: December 14, 2025, 06:18:43 PM
I like a usable scissor in my multi-tool. I had a good one in a Nextool multi-tool that lasted 2 years. The scissor was the first thing to break. I replaced it with a Roxon. That's been going strong for a year now.

Newer Roxon on left.  Nextool with painful looking dislocated arm on the right.

Nextool is really coming on strong, especially with their mini MTs.

You can also go with a dedicated scissor-only tool, like this Victorinox Companion X and then pair it with something groovy.

Hope your Roxon gives you a few years of good service.

I am the same way.  The scissors are one of my most used tools,  Frequently I will supplement the scissors on MT with a 91mm SAK with scissors just to ensure I have a usable pair.

Next to the SAK scissors, the ones on the Nextool Mini Flagship are my favorities.

The only Roxon I tried were for the Companion, which were ok but not great.  As far as other MT scissors I have tried:
Leatherman scissors tend to be good.
Boker and Ruike are good.
Gerbers are not very good.

Aaah. Sucks to hear that they broke, but looking at the spring I guess it is something that will eventually happen.
Would you say you put some extra stress on them the day they broke? I have several MTs with scissors like that and I hope they will last.

I think it has value to have some foldable scissors at hand. But they can take some space on your EDC.

Victorinox scissors are some of the best and to me that has made the Swisschamp (yes, not trully a MT) my favourite EDC.
This fat gurl can saw, can cut, can file, can scissor and looks pretty civilized for an urban environment.

A Swisschamp isn't a multi-tool?  I learn something new here every day.  I like the idea of a folding scissors, but don't use that particular tool enough to carry them.  Best wishes.  G

Well, no surprises there. NexTool tools are known to break. At least you got 2 years out of it. I got a few days.

A Swisschamp isn't a multi-tool?

This is a deep philosophical debate going back to the days of Plato and Socrates.

I consider a Swiss Champ to be a SAK but not a multitool.  Just like I don't consider a truck or a minivan to be a "car".

A Swisstool Spirit is a multitool, but not a SAK.  At least in Powernoodleworld.

Gerbers are not very good.
My experience has been that Gerber is inconsistent with their scissors. Those on a Suspension NXT work well for my needs (that tool lives in my paracord tools box). Yet the Dime scissors struggle with anything other than paper. I haven't tested the scissors on the MP400 extensively enough.

Indeed.

To my way of thinking, any tool that has more than one designed function is a MT.  MTs can be divided into categories, such as PBMTs, KBMTs, OPMTs, etc.  so I would say a SC is a MT.

Bibury:  pretty good cutters, though the locking mechanism on the tool I got is problematic
Fox Vulpis: poor

I’m in the camp that holds Victorinox as ruling supreme in the domain of scissors. It seems like everyone is in that camp, it’s pretty crowded here.

Leatherman scissors I find variable, but never had any that were bad. They range from decent to excellent.
