One month NexTool Mini Sailor Lite test/challenge
on: December 30, 2025, 02:15:37 PM
So I'm going to carry the Nextool Mini Sailor Lite for the next 30 days or so to see how well it performs.  I'm carrying a mini EDC set of bladeless MT, flashlight, Vic Pruner for cutting, as well as an emergency supply of painkillers ( and yes they're all on prescription).

If the NexTool doesn't cut it( pun intended) I will grab the required tool be it a SwissTool or a hammer!

I'll try to post everyday with what I've used the NexTool for.

Today it was popping spring pins back into a Casio Baby-G that turned up from Ebay. Task achieved, but it wasn't super difficult

That's awesome! :like:
I am very interested to see how this one performs. I have been avoiding NexTool multi-tools lately, but I have thought of getting this one. I've put it in and out of my shopping cart so many times. The OLight one was the same with just diffrent scales.

This will also qualify for the Black-Out EDC Challenge.

Oh, ok! I'll look up that challenge!

I'll be very honest in that I've been keeping an eye on NexTool, but hadn't yet seen one that convinced me to pull the trigger. The amount of time I'm around hospitals these days I'm looking at the lower profile tool route. The plus side is that being a gentleman of leisure (no sniggering please) a heavy duty tool isn't currently a big requirement

So since getting to move home I've been getting frozen meals delivered (Wiltshire Farm meals for the Brits). Much to my surprise they're actually quite tasty. But you do need to pull the cover off the meal when it comes out of the oven or the nuke. The NexTool's pliers do grip the film nice and tightly so that's a win for the little guy

So the Mini Sailor Lite has been busy over the last 24hrs. Last night it was helping in stripping a N scale Kato Pocket Line tram by acting as pry bar

This morning it was the turn of the scissors, first opening the package from our friends at Heinnies. Later it was used to open a Star Trek Fan Collective dvd set bought off Ebay.

The scissors cut well. Maybe not Victorinox levels, but we'll enough. The problem is that they will dig into the tip of your thumb of there's any resistance in the packaging .

Dinnertime again saw the pliers being used to pull back the film on the ready meal

That's a cool tram car! :like: I need a refresher course in model railroad scales, but I understand model car and aircraft scales pretty well.

Depends where in the world you are ( cos model railroaders can't standardise) but 9mm gauge with a scale running between 1/148 and 1/160

My dad had a small model railroad layout, which was N-gauge if I recall correctly. I know the Micro Machines train I had (and now regret trading away) was close to N-gauge.

Last night I re-jigged my new Power Lock for UK "legality" by replacing the combo blade with the V-cutter. The NexTool was used to cut out some improvised washers from polycarbonate.

Not sure what the NexTool will be needed for on the Lego build, but Great Scott! How could I not use the image?

Well today's usage was the usual removal of film from my ready meal dinner (mushroom stroganoff for the record); and for transferring the stickers on my BTTF lego build

I use tweezers to help place those pesky labels. Why Lego persists with them is a mystery to me.

I was going to suggest you label the posts as Day 1, Day 2, etc, but you can give the badge to yourself, so, all good. :salute:

Cheaper than tampo printing pieces maybe? But yeah they're very annoying

Yesterday the NexTool didn't see any use, believe it or not. It rode in the little emergency/EDC pouch all day when I was out for coffee, and looking in 2nd hand shops over in Newtownards, but I'll tag on a pic with my blacked out Casio W-218H.

Today I was streamlining my keyring and the NexTool was spot on for opening the split rings

As predicted,  the NexTool jumped into action to cut open the HDMI cable needed to mate 20th century tech to my smart() TV. Scissors were again adequate.

There's been no multitool action yet today, but I've started a new painting project, so I won't be surprised if the little tool gets pulled into action later in the evening

The scissors saw action today opening packaging.

Again, they're OK. They cut alright, but aren't as sharp or as comfortable as Vic scissors, even the 58mms.

It's Napoleonic French light cavalry of some sort, by Hawk. Always seen these in the magazines when I lived in SA, but they weren't available. Nice to be catching up 30 years on

Halfords white primer. Paints will be Army Painter and Vallejo acrylics, maybe a Games Workshop or two. Once I start painting in earnest I'll open a new thread.

I'm also planning on finishing Fergus, a 1/35 conversion to an Irish Army UN Peacekeeper in the Congo that I started a few years back. It's about time the poor sod is finished

Nice choices

Might this nerd suggest priming in matt black and applying a zenithal highlight in white?

Looking forward to your painting thread  :salute:

Mags, I've never tried that before. Have you had good results with it? I'll certainly give that a try, but it'll not be on this chap

Great results! The white printer is applied from above so it settles on the same areas that light would and gives great definition and shadow to the figure, ready for painting
