I'm already committed to the Soldier On challenge, but I'll be following along. This should be a good one!

A CADET?   I know I have a RECRUIT, a CADET?  That little fella running around looking lost because had no scissors to cut the mustard, or something like that???
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Pretty rare to hear a bad word for the Cadet. Slips in the pocket like nothing, and the nail file is a great tool for a more "civilized" EDC. I never really cared for the Recruit myself, awlthough I guess it'd be good for whittlin' without the backside tools.

Recruit is just a Victorinox mid size slip joint with open ing layer. It is thin for a slipjoint and does fade away in the pocket.  Recruit does have scale tools.

The CADET is ALOX scales only if my memory is retrieving the correct info from my randomized info storage between my ears.

Edited Recruit info, thinking of another model I was🥺

Count me in. I have a few Cadets here, and I'd love to try relying on one for a month. The Pioneer is usually my daily, and the Cadet is sort of a scaled down version of that. Should be fun!

I’m tempted by this, but was also considering the 90 day soldier challenge. I suppose I could do the soldier challenge for the 30 day badge then do this. Decisions.

If I do participate, these are the two contenders. The winter magic one wouldn’t get carried or used, just posed.

In preparation for the challenge I have added a Cadet to my regular rotation. For something that disappears in your pocket it is quite a capable SAK. Looking forward to March!

The winter magic is one of the most beautiful SAK's ever IMO, glad I got one too

Okay, this may be a stupid question but is this a Cadet? Gustophersmob's doesn't have a keyring. So I'm wondering whether I have a Cadet or something else entirely... I remember it came in a box with a leather pouch (which I can't for the life of me find). But I don't remember exactly what model it was.

If it is a 84mm, 2 layer, then YES!

Early CADETS had a blade instead of the nail file.

SAKWIKI can be a great resource when in doubt.

Yep, thats a cadet. Mine doesn’t have a key ring because I filed it off. Most cadets come with a key ring but there are exceptions like the 5-color series that came with pouches. Those did not have key rings.

Wait, so some of those five-colour ones did and some didn't have keyrings? This guy is from that set. This came with a leather pouch that didn't have a button, it was like a tongue that went into a band.

The specific 5 colors series are all without keyrings and came with a leather pouch, don't know about button.
Then there's obviously lots of coloured cadets out there, nearly all, but not quite all, released with keyrings

I just noticed this challenge isn't listed in the 2026 Challenges thread.  Is that by design?

I will join in :salute:

Two day over lap with the Combo Challenge.

Will be able to locate one of my CADETS, but will admit, I will need a plier MT due to finger issues on some days.
And an occasional corkscrew for stubborn shoelace knots. (Parts of this old man are being stubborn 😢)

Just sitting here, on the couch, watching On Patrol Live and realized that the challenge is getting ready to start.
Grabbed the old trusty out of its bed in my phone case and took a quick grab shot, for day 1.
