Swiss Tool Spirit S....not in Joisey!
on: March 23, 2007, 11:13:41 PM
Lesseee... I visited 5 different big hunting/sporting-goods stores here in central NJ in hopes of finding a Swiss Tool Spirit S. I went home and must've called about 25 places. I was certain ONE of the stores would have it. Nope. I usually call ahead to ensure they actually have the item I'm looking for but from a previous visit I thought Ray's Sporting Goods in North Plainfield did have a Spirit S. Nope. They had the Spirit. I would rather buy it in-person, if possible, but I will mail order if need be. Anyone know of a store in NJ(I'll even go a little into Pennsy) that has the Spirit S?

I can't say as I know of any places in your area that sell them, but I'd definately suggest buying one from our on line retailers.  Those guys make it possible for us to have places like this to ask these questions!

If you want to handle it before you buy, that's easily enough to accomplish.  Try contacting the New Jersey Knife Collector's Association- I am certain one of the members there will be able to let you handle one (either the standard Spirit or the S) a bit before you take the plunge and order it.

I already checked all the vendors off the main page Def. None had the Spirit S. I'll check again though. Thanks for the info about the NJKCA, I didn't know they existed but I will check into them.

I have sent up the Rat Signal, so a representative of the NJKCA may be here shortly with information on how to get involved.

Do not dispair. I have them in stock, just not listed in the shop. Please always check with me as I frequently have items not yet listed, thanks.

I got an email from Ed about the NJKCA:

Quote
Hu, Def.  I don't have access there.  Why don't you have Splat email me.  We have an NJKCA meeting this Sunday actually.

I have a Swisstool Spirit myself.  Just about all I have besides a Leatherman Juice.  I gave the others away.

Ed.

Send me a PM if you are interested and I'll give you his email address.

Bad news.  I checked the REI, & LL Bean in Marlton, Raul's Army navy In Berlin, And Just Knives 101 in Williamstown.  NO JOY!!! :(

I know this sounds kind of silly, but try calling around to some gardening shops.  Thanks to the Leatherman Hybrid, many gardening stores are now carrying multitools too, and since many have been carrying Victorinox grafting and pruning knives for years, it's a possibility.

I can recommend the Spirit too.  I don't have the S version, but I love the standard Spirit.

And, while I'm sure all the sellers here are great, I can vouch for FelineVet as a great source...although I understand your wanting to see the Spirit S before buying.

Best of luck!

I just came back fro AC(Atlantic City),  and went to Historical Collection, on the Boardwalk.  Not only do they carry replica swords but they also carry Benchmade, AG Russell, Spyderco and VICTORINOX!!!
But they don't have the Spirit. :(

Not a total loss, Got an Altimeter Model there!!

After busting my hump trying to get a hold of a Vic Spirit S I've decided against it. The Phillips is my most used implement of my multi and after reading all the gripes about the Swiss Tool's slippery Phillips I'm going to go with SOG's Power Assist. If it ever comes out.   ::)  In the meantime I'm still using my Core, which I need to send to LM for the crack in the handle. Ugh.  :(

Please post photos/comments when you get the Assist!  I probably won't buy one until after I've seen some reviews so I'll be very interested to hear your opinions.

Check ebay for a Powerlock in the meantime for a deal...it would be something to play with for the next few months before the Power Assist comes out.

The Phillips is great on the SOGs BTW, and has a decent reach.

I just noticed something and now I feel like a goofball!  :-[   I don't know how I came to the conclusion that SOG's Power Assist is an outside-opener. It is, actually, but only for the knife. The other tools are accessed only after opening the tool, like SOG's other multis. So it looks like I'm back to either the Spirit S or modifying something else.....

Maybe you need a black oxidized Spirit S.  Oxidation would not slip nearly as much as the stainless finish.

I was just thinking about that. :)  I don't think I've seen a black Spirit S though. Do they make one?  I wonder if the Phillips on a black Spirit S would be less prone to slippage. I think it's time for a Spirit S!   :multi:

You could order it.

But if you want to buy it in person, you can take a short roadtrip to NY, where they have the only Victorinox store in the US.
