Can anyone tell me a bit about the history, design and usage of the Grohmann Canadian Belt Knife?

I remember years ago travelling across the line into the USA with a friend of mine and we stopped into a knife shop in one of the local malls when in came a rep for Russell/Grohmann knives.  My buddy and I being young, and somewhat ignorant kind of laughed at the Canadian knives and blew them off as somewhat useless and of not much value for our applications which were more for looking macho and cool.  It was years later I really came to appreciate the design of the grohmann line and their intended use's.  I sometimes think of that day way back when and regret displaying that attitude towards such a fine line of knives.

It's in Pictou County, and there's nothing but beer there.  Plus, they sell Victorinox knives in the factory store!

Just stay away from their stainless steel, 440a ish at best and soft as hell. Also if you have big hand stay away from the #1 as well, my hand hurts when I use it, handle is way too thin.

Only if you have a really cute sister...  there's a reason no one goes to Pictou!

I know this will sound like heresy but I own the #1 and the Cold Steel version (thanks DEF for pointing it out to me).

I think the #1 is beautiful but it stays in its little cardboard home, I figure the CS works and feels good plus its a whole lot cheaper (if one were to abuse or lose it).

I use the CS alot in the kichen for peeling and slicing since my little paring knife went missing (funny it was the one that my wife hated I wonder if there is a connection?) ::)

For looks, feel and finish #1 all the way. For an abusive relationship then CS.

I guess I missed what you were trying to convey.   I figured if there's beer and vic knives what a combo.  Just don't forget to take along bandaids!   ;)
