This 74mm Horn arrived today.  I usually try to buy knives with original boxes, but I made an exception for this one:

This was a factory offering or a custom mod? Very nicely done and pretty.

Some nice looking items, particularly the Wenger Blackout and Victorinox Horn.

Too bad about the busted back spring; at least you don't have much in it.

I guess since no two are exactly alike, a true collector must buy every one she/he sees!

I suppose an actual human being did the shaping of these scales?

Bought my wife this "used, new condition" Vic Compact off the big auction site. It looks mint. Not a mark on the tools or scales. She rarely has pockets, but I figured the variety of tools in a narrow package would be very useful to her in her purse.

I see it has the crossbow stamp on the main blade tang, no nail file on the back of the hook. Scissor is rivot, not screw.

Comparing the thickness of the main blade to my brand new Tinker, the Compact blade is thicker at the tang. Stronger.

Did Victorinox lessen the strength of the blades and parts while doing away with the crossbow??? Just curious.

Just won this Hoffritz Super Tink. Has a bent tip on the main blade. I'll figure that out when it gets here.

Wonderful!  Another SAK couple!  Shortly after Christmas, my wife needed to read some tiny print and I handed her an Explorer and showed her the magnifier.  My darling has taken to the Explorer like a duck to water.  I put a Compact in her Christmas stocking  in the hope that she would enjoy having a full-size SAK after having a Classic on her keychain for decades.  The Compact is still in its box but she uses the Explorer regularly.

I can't speak to the science but it is evident that the base of the tang on the crossbow (Rostfrei) stamp is slightly thicker than the current blade.

Here's one of my older Climbers vs New Compact

There is no difference in thickness between the old vs new main blades. The only thing slightly thinner now is the tang. It makes no difference to the overall strength of the blade. If you look carefully at both you'll see that on the old one the tang was thicker than the start of the blade on one side, this means that when produced the blade blank was thicker than the current one, that means more metal was removed ( wasted) when grinding the blade to it's final thickness, multiply that by some millions and you'll get the point. This way there is less material going to waste.
