It seems as the website is currently not available...I can't access the website www.sac-cas.ch at all.   Try later...  ;)

Ok, thanks Martin and congratulations for the Heidi Evowood!

It's back up but the link to the 161 isn't working anymore. They do appear to have a wood scaled version of the Cyclist for 50 Francs.

http://www.sac-cas.ch/shop.html?q=aHR0cDovL2ZqMTA1cDA0LnRyZW5kaG9zdGluZy5jaC9pbmRleC5waHAvY2x1Yi1zaG9wL2V2by13b29kLW1lc3Nlci1taXQtc2FjLWxvZ28uaHRtbA%3D%3D

Anyone seen this one before or is it a SAC exclusive?

I have both the SAC EvoWoods. Pretty sure they're exclusive to SAC, but have no info on numbers. Thought I'd saved a printout for the files, but can't find it.

Weber's World have both SAC woods
http://www.webers-world.com/product_info.php?info=p530_EvoWood-35-SAC.html
http://www.webers-world.com/product_info.php?info=p531_RangerWood-161-SAC.html
however the Rangerwood does NOT have the engraving on the blade, for some reason that was only available from the SAC website.

Yes, I have both models of the Rangerwood 161.
The "standard" one has, also, a different box without the 150th years logo.
The wood engraving is also on the front scale.
I uploaded a picture of it on the wiki some time ago.

Seems that the only limited run was for the 150th years anniversary model.
I remember 200 units from the SAC website, but I'm not 100% sure.
What I'm sure is that the production number of the limited series was actually written somewhere on the SAC website.

Yes I think you are correct, the 150 anniversary production run was for 200.
(I didn't notice the engraving was on the other side for the "standard" model - interesting)
Anyway I think the 150 Rangerwood 161 is a beautiful knife!

Went ahead and contacted directly the Schweizer Alpen-Club SAC.
They just confirmed me that there were 200 Rangerwood 161 knives made with the 150 years logo.
Could a wiki administrator (enki???) please add a new page under the "Wenger 130mm" menu, in the "RangerWood Models" section, with the name "RangerWood 161"?
I think I could then start working to add the two models.

It looks great :tu:
Thanks!

I created the requested page and linked it in the alphabetical and 2 layer index. I also added some basic info and the picture from below as placeholders so you can edit the page easier.

http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+RangerWood+161

BTW, I'm not an administrator on the wiki, just a regular user. Any user can create/edit wiki pages, but only an administrator can move or rename them. I usually start from the index page for that size, add the model and save the page. Then you get a ? mark next to the page name. If you click it, it will lead you to the blank page for that model and you can start making an entry. I usually copy the content of a similar SAK and edit out or add the necessary info.

Glad to see you back, North Man. I was getting worried. :D

Thank you!
Yes, I do know the procedure from the question mark. I used it few times to create new pages.
I thought, however, that only administrators were allowed to edit the index.
Good to know!
Thanks again!
I will take pictures of the 150 years model and expand the page soon.

I uploaded some pictures and made small edits to the page.
Now it should be (hopefully) very easy to see all the differences between the RangerWood 161 and the RangerWood 161.P1.CAS

Looks great. :salute: And very nice detail on the scale emblem. :tu:

BTW, if you'll be adding new pages yourself, make sure to add them to both the alphabetical and the layer index. The layer index is formatted a bit differently but I'm sure you'll figure it out easily.

Does anybody have an idea if the Wenger "Urban Survivor" was sold with this name anywhere else outside Canada?
The only reference I saw was in the catalog on the wiki
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_gallery.php?galleryId=72
where is mentioned here
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_image.php?galleryId=72&sort_mode=imageId_asc&imageId=1283&scalesize=0
and here
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_image.php?galleryId=72&sort_mode=imageId_asc&imageId=1290&scalesize=o
The "Urban Survivor" is actually the "Matterhorn" (same catalog number)
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Matterhorn
I think we could just leave the name on the wiki 85mm index and link it to the Matterhorn page.

This time I saved the webpage! :D
Interesting that the Ranger image shown has the SAC logo on the front scale.

Nice find on the Urban Survivor catalog reference. So it's actually just a canadian name for the Matterhorn. I actually PM-d Francis about it about a month ago as he created that page.

Quote
Urban Survivor ? Are you sure that exists? I can only find the record of it on smartknives, and he lists it with description and identifier of a Matterhorn, and lists a Matterhorn as the same but with pliers  and #16694 which I think is the identifier of a Business Tool Model 55 Black.

So it does exist. :D Just that the smartknives page is wrong about it.

I think we could just do as you suggest, leave the name but not link it to that empty page. Instead add a "see Matterhorn" and add it under Variations as a Canadian model name with a link to the catalog page.

Another with Backpacker icon (pad print type) This is a euro 1 13 23 and could be a 1990 knife. Toothpick and tweezer. In the French catalogue this is under Sports. I love the Wengers with icons on.

Very nice!!!!
It is listed on the Wiki as Classic 132
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Classic+132
... and I just realized that in 2006 this knife had the different name Classic 13

Humm, what a confusion!  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
The name Classic 13 was later used for a different knife!
I'm attaching a scan of a 2008 european catalog.
You can see in the same page the classic 13 and classic 132 and that the catalog number 1.13.29 was used for the model 132.
For the moment I have added to the wiki index the old catalog number next to the Classic 13 name

I recently located this knife.  I believe it is an older viking model.  It has the usual can opener, bottle opener, awl and corkscrew along with a locking main blade, clip point small blade and chain.  It's in very usable condition - the blades are perfect however some use marks.

I'd never seen that kind of lock and the clip point was interesting.

John.

From your description this could be the model 1.10.65 (which had only the tweezers).
However I see the toothpic in your picture.
So your model could be a later version of the "Adirondack", according to the wiki

So what's the difference between the Backpacker 12 and the Pathfinder?  The Backpacker and Backpacker II were totally different. What happened to Backpacker 3 through to 11?  :P SAK names can be so confusing at times. Mine is identical with the same boot tread imprint, but on the smooth scales (except for the raised Wenger text)

Same knife, different names.
Looking at the catalogs, the last reference I found of the Backpacker/Pathfinder with plain scales is from 2008 (top knife in the following picture).
Fisrt reference of the model with the Evo scales is from a 2009 catalog (bottom knife in picture).
Note the small difference (the "3") in the catalog number

Found that this knife was also listed as Classic 12 in 2006  :ahhh :ahhh
So we basically have three different names and four major variations for the same knife:
1) Pathfinder (with backpacker image);
2) Classic 12 (standard scales, no image);
3) Backpacker 12 (standard scales, boot print image);
4) Backpacker 12 (Evo scales, boot print image).
Confusing, isn't it?  :D

Anyone know why Evowood 16 is not available in Europe? It seems nuts that to get a knife made one country away I have to ship it at great expense from the other side of the Atlantic.
(I noticed none of the Philips head Evowoods are available here. As if us Europeans are so busy drinking wine we're incapable of screwing.)
