Well done! I believe we need to focus on these for now. Wenger did not make it easy for us collectors, but i do love their producs.
 I remember we discussed the start of the more modern Swiss Army Knife from the early 70s, since then they have produced more novelties and special range, sportsman knives and gadget knives than anyone. They did some amazing moves from the early 70s, from the 80s and until the merging today.
This is why it is very fun to collect them, one will always get a product not only for use but also a for a variation collector. They are almost like a postage stamp, one never know when a treasure appears!

Here is a picture with a good Compass to the left (swirl to North). Not easy to see ho accurate from a picture, i have also tested this Wenger against a military type Compass. This Wenger on my knife is very good and can be used. Atleast to get a direction. Then i have the Wenger type two. Have seen this broken on atleast two knives. This then may have a fault. It will jump out of place.

PS the Picture is just to show them, if to be used one must not have them near each other + the key ring/chain is magnetic and so on. You know :)

Yes, you can use the Wenger compas, but it's very difficult because it's too small to be very accurate.

The Recta (Swiss made) is one of the best night and day compas I never use as boy scout or backpaker...

Rotating capsule with dial (as you wish: degrees, ranks or thousandth of circle) and you can adjust Declination with the little screwdriver

Removable mirror for sighting and side scale

Cool! I get it now, there is no South American knife because the maple knife counts for both North and South America.

Ok, it's time to respond with something.
Wenger Bernina. It was a crazy quest to find it. Bought last one, luckily it sat forgotten behind show window in russian accesories store for over a year.

I was just looking at that model yesterday in an old thread. :D Very nice find. :tu:

Yeah, and it's also a great gift for a woman that likes to sew  ;) My second half was unbelievebly happy when I brought this baby to her. I was surprised myself by number of unique implements inside of it. Never thought it would be so hard to find it. They are discontinued long time ago, although sakwiki keeps silence about this.
I just stumbled over this

Its listed as "in stock" on couteau-suisse.biz, the also have the Swiss Business Tool 60 listed as "in stock".
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I think I expressed my feeling about differences between Wenger and Vic here few years ago, but I don't remember well. I'm not an expert about steel quality, from a practical point of view, I always prefered Wenger for some reasons. First of all, the ancient soldier knife is simply superior to the Vic because of the large ring, much more solid. Then, the scissors are superior in my opinion because of the almost unbreakable spring but the autosharp blades can be of a disadvantage is you want to quickly cut a piece of paper, for example.
Generally, Wenger was always more innovative and adventurous (does this word exist ?) and Vic more conservative. For example, even knives with unusual shape, ergonomic evo series, cobranding even with porsche, and so on. Vic also have unusual knives like cigar one, but it's not exactly the same spirit.
If somebody knows if there's any difference in steel quality between Vic and Wenger, I would be interested to know.

Yeah, that wood set :drool: I'm guessing the placement on the map designates where the wood came from :think:
Yes, I think so. Not sure about the asian one, but the others, yes.

In the official document, they say it's a tribute to the worldwide support.

Humm,
I'm having few problems crating images for all the compass variations.
I think we have basically four options:
a) create a total of three pictures for the wiki (front, back, scale attachment), each one showing the six variations.
Unfortuantely since the pictures were taken by different people, with different sizes etc., they best I could do is the preview image attached...not the best solution, to be honest;
b) we could have in the wiki page a total of 9 pictures: 3 for the first 4 generations (my pictures), 3 for the 5th generation (North Man) and 3 for the 6th generation (jcfiguet )...perhaps too many pictures for a single wiki page;
c) we could agree on a same size, background, camera angle and try to achieve a better result on option a) keeping the total to 3 pictures, each one showing the 6 different compasses;
d) remove all the pictures from the wiki page, edit the variations and just link the images to the gallery

You're Welcome !!!

We have the same problem of dates with the metal logo, upon last investigations we found 3 periods but dates are not accurate...

And since 2004 it's the logo is injected into the scale...

For olders logo before 1960's it's not accurate at all !

That's interesting!
I whish they were still making the logo in metal, and not in plastic.
The printed one is the worst looking, in my opinion.

On my photo (2004 and after) it's not a printed one but an injection process, I'm sorry but the photo is bad.

Printed logos are ugly, we have the same opinion, generaly this process was reserved for economy series (like Victorinox) and it exists on all periods between 1950 and today.

2004 is accurate for plastic logos with injection process because of a dated patent, but I'm not sure about accuracy of other dates...

Hi

I am glad about this work by all of you!
I got some input on the emblems, on the Picture you can see emblem types on knives during the 80s
and up. There is a difference on Budget or "economy" models, like you mention that Victorinox also got. On a Budget type in the 80s i found the type With hot stamp and silver Paint or also the silvery marking tape that Wenger did use on the icons in the scales. Then they did pad print on both emblem. The models With icons in the scales are not Budget models, still just interesting what is used in the emblem on the Budget.

Not sure i have showed this before, from the left is the hot stamped emblem with silver color. This like i did mention could have been used even before 1980, perhaps you could tell me?. Anyhow one can find the hot stamped during the 90s also. Wenger did mention they went over to pad printing in the 80s, most likely late 80s. We have the same here with the variations and interim knives. During around 1988 Wenger went over to the longer can opener, and also from this date we see the W on the backside of the tang.

With advertising knives it depends on the buyer, what he wants, normal or Budget, i have found variations.

Humm, I don't have a name for the first one.
The closest are the Master (1.52.53), but it adds the wood saw and the main blade is locking, or the Tradesman (1.51.13), but it replaces the nail file with a small blade and the corkscrew with phillips.
As for the locking Monarch (which is basically a "Lancelot" with cellidor scales), I see a lot of them for sale, but don't have an idea of the model name or catalog number.
I have one coming from the USA with the help of a forum member which adds a strange image imprinted that I never saw before.
Will post picture when I'll get it.
-------
Good job with the emblems!
Edit: what a coincidence!

Interesting knife - it seems to have the same Tools like the Lancelot? http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Lancelot It seems to have the short can opener, is the W or 3 knife logo on the back(tang) It looks at first for me as a 1980-1986 type of knife.
