Thanks.

By recently I mean all the way back a couple of months including the Compass stuff and lots of variations on models.  Picked up a couple catalogs recently so they might help some, I'll try to get them scanned; have a big back log of SAK stuff to catch up on.

There's been a lot of good work by a lot of people. Nikola and Carlo have made it a major project to update the wiki. Looking forward to your input also.

Having the Wenger section updated will be a nice way to honor the Wenger SAK legacy/heritage.  It's great to see many people getting involved in this now.

Just grabbed the United Woods set thanks to Martin letting me know they were out in the wild.

Does anybody have an idea about a 75mm Wenger with the same configuration as the "Crusader"?
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Crusader
Just found it in a shop and I could not find any reference.
Will post pictures tomorrow.

Here are the pictures, with an Esquire 65mm for size comparison

I did a quick check and can't find a reference for a 75mm Crusader, but I seem to remember seeing one in the past.  Maybe Stressmaster will have something on it.

As for the 75mm VIP, there's a pic of it in Chakos 65/75mm thread about half way down.

There are some good shots of the VIP on the SAKWicki as well. Both models with and without keyring. I realize I probably should have used something for size reference in that shot. :pok:

I'm thinking maybe we need to eliminate either the Highlander or Trailblazer page, and group everything under the same heading. Could make the Highlander a version of the Trailblazer, the same way we've made other 'basic' (no t&t) knives versions of their respective knives. Or go with Highlander as the main page since there are more numbered variations. Opinions?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trailblazer/Classic 11 - (red) 16931/1.11.03/1.011.009.000 (with T&T)
Trailblazer (black) - 1693102

Highlander (red) - 16979 (no T&T)
Highlander Fire Red (translucent) - 16150
Highlander Everglade Green - 16151
Highlander Smoke Grey - 16152
Highlander Glacier Blue - 16153
Highlander Mandarin Orange - 16154
Highlander Advantage Timber (camo) - 16170
Highlander Realtrees Hardwood (camo) - 16172

Serrated Highlander (red) - 16479

Day Hiker (Eddie Bauer)(red)- with lock (with T&T) - ?
Oak Day Hiker (Eddie Bauer)(oak handles) - with lock (no T&T) - ?
World Scout (same as Day Hiker)(red)(with lock and T&T) - 1.11.91.100

Related knives - EVO 11, EVO S11, EVOGrip 11, Scout Junior S11 (purple)

i think the wenger vs victorinox thing  has some valid points on either sides,
for me ive always found wengers are cheaper to buy, atleast in europe and asia/paciic...

thats one point .. i can buy a wenger two bladed evo or standard keychain knife in australian for about 10$ ...
vic is about 17 for the same style ect..

i think wenger makes more interesting cool designs with more facinating tools.

but their fit and finish is pooere than victorinox.
still compared to other production knives.. theyer fine products.. compare.. say case or schrade   ect slip joints.. and from a box of 100 youll have quite a few rejects  but wenger not so,

for me the locking wenger ranger knives the old ones with the clip point blade were a really good design and very well made, so was their multitool,

generally they have always produced more very specific tools and more options,
like black blades more different handle materials , and more strange speciality tools , like a skiing tool or a bike tool ect...

the mini grip multitool was very neat too,

their knife blade shape is superior to vics and their small knife blade is superior in shape as well,

their inbult backspring/spring is better than the vic spring  on the pliers and scissors,

their scissors are not for cutting nails though they are inferior to the vic product , suited to thread or other matierls much better..

which is silly as they should really market 2 different scissors.. unless you want serrated finger nails haha,

their plier is a neat design on their knives (small plier) but its not very strong compared to the vic

their polishing is also inferior and ofver the last decade i have noticed that they are over polishing their products producing to rounded edges,
this can be seen with many wengers lacking a pointed tip,

also their sharpening on the blades is poor. most a blunt when you get them , (easy fix its true but its the first thing you see)

the vics are all shaving sharp and finly sharpened, the wengers are doune on a much rougher grit and burred or dont meet in the edge..

even on the old ranger lock blades they were blunt out of the box..

hit and miss with their sharpening,,

their can opener is inferiro to the vic can opener..

their awl is also inferior.

their knife blade and tools and typically thinner..

it seems like this have lots of good ideas but dont stick with them long vic sticks with one  and runs with if for a long time.. a good idea in that lne of business.

for me id take tiher.. and i own about 150-200 of each . so what can i say..

i find wenger more interesting and more facinating creative tools.
i finde vic just better profile polished.. machined.. ect..
but then vic is a much bigger more "hightech" factory.

id say buy them both they both work well , youll be happy with either...........

both beat anything else on the market/..

eg only other multiblade maker like vic and wenger is  mikov :) not the worst knives.. but you can see how the "competition" stacks up.......

Basic 5 - Entree
Basic 11 - Forester
Basic 62 - Picnic

My info:

Basic 63 - another name for Entree  (#1.63.41)
Basic 65 - Apprentice  (# 16949 / 1.65.01)
Basic 66 - Classic 66   (#1.66.41)
Basic 7 - Commander  (#? )
Basic 8 - Backpacker   (#1.08.01)
Basic 9 - another name for Forester (#?)

OK, I did some research and I have quite different informations on the Basic line.
I was able to find a total of 7 models.
07
08
09
62
63
65
66
There are matching catalog numbers and pictures for all the models in both the european 1995 catalog and in the european 2006 catalog.
The european 2005 catalog shows only four models (07, 62, 63 and 65).
I couldn't find any reference for the "Basic 5" and "Basic 11", as are now listed on the wiki.
According to my catalogs, the Basic 5 is actually the Basic 63 and the Basic 11 is actually the Basic 09.
Karl could you please check again.
I need someone who can confirm the existance of the "Basic 5" and "Basic 11" names (North America market? I did check the few NA catalogs I have, and I didn't find any reference to the Basic series).

Carlo,

The only info I have for the Basic 5 and 11 is what is currently in the wiki. My notebook data agrees with yours that the Basic 63 is the Classic 63/Entree, and the Basic 9 is the Forester. Also that the Basic 62 is the Classic 62/Picnic (missed that earlier). So it looks like our info's in agreement. Unless someone else comes up with other info I'd say drop the 5 & 11 and go with what we have.

Looking good!  :tu:

Will wait few days, than I'll edit the wiki entries for the 5 and 11 and hopefully add the missing ones.

The number for the Sailfish is 16955. The plain-handled version is 1 19 13. Also includes screw driver, can opener, and reamer.

The Sailfish is a rather rare piece. Shows up in Wenger's 1979 North American catalog (page 5; see wiki).

I would not be in a big hurry to edit the Wiki for Basic 5 and Basic 11, the marketing name Basic and Classic are like almost the same just Wenger's transition from the Standard name.  The numbering sceme transitioned too.  If you really feel they are wrong, I'd put an 'Under Review' or something next to the names in the 85mm list.  Something these things take a while to shake out and we've been pretty careful before listing new names.

Love that one!   I am going to miss the Evowood.  I hope Victorinox continues to use this Walnut, but uses more material than they used on the 111mm Damascus scales.

Hmmm, I just picked up an older Sailfish then, I was trying to figure out what model it is.
Mine has a bail replacing the more modern keyring, and the older dogleg can opener. Standard red scales.
