On a different note, how can you be able to narrow down the vintage on a Wenger?  As my collection keeps growing, I'd love to know how much history some of them have lived.   Does Victorinox honor the Wenger warranty now that they are the parent company?

That's quasi impossible to know with precision the wenger knives history because all the archives were burned with the factory in 1986.

But with my experience and a lot of research, I made a little 'time-line' (in french):

You can download this file here (3rd Update) : Eléments de datation Wenger V3

**** Exact date, determined from reliable sources
*** Excellent reliability, approximate date determined from several reliable and convergent sources
** Medium reliability, approximate date determined from several convergent sources
* Low reliability, approximate date determined from assumptions

And if you want more information on Wenger, contact me by PM (or my links will be censored by some moderators).

Fell in love with this Swiss Clip AT the first time I used it. This is one Victorinox should have carried over with the 580 as it omitted the pen blade for a micro driver to make it TSA friendly for airline travel. That's the reason I bought it.

One fine Wenger!

Received this very nice LNIB Wenger Executive a couple days ago . . . Wenger's slightly larger version of Victorinox's Classic

There is a significant irony here, with Wenger having been bought by Victorinox. From the "Stonecutter" name, a "75" emblazoned over a diamond and "1920 - 1995" on the back, it's fairly easy to deduce it's celebrating a 75th diamond anniversary. Who, then, was Stonecutter? It was a textile mill in Spindale, North Carolina, and it was one of the largest and most efficient in the region. Unfortunately, when the clothing making (aka "the needles") went across the Pacific, the demand for textiles plummeted. Little did they know as they celebrated their 75th Diamond Jubilee, that in four short years they would have zero orders for textiles, not one. Stonecutter wasn't the only mill either. The entire region of North Carolina was hit by economic hardship that lasted for years as all the textile mills shut down. As one person described it, they went over a cliff going from nearly full production to zero in just a few years.

It's a beautiful Executive, with the excellent Wenger scissors, and not quite as excellent (IMHO) tweezers. Underneath it is the white vinyl pouch it was in inside the box. Currently lives in the box, stashed in a drawer, as I continue to debate whether or not to use it, as I'm very much a knife user, but unlike the other, this one has a story behind it, albeit a tragic one.

Wenger Soft Touch? Evo knife with clip point, and serrated scissors

Are these rare? I got it in a grab bag, it wasn't the knife I was after.

Good snag!!!  Not super rare, I have 2 or 3 (I think) but you don't see them very much. Come up on ebay every couple of months or so..

http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Tactile+-+Soft-Touch+Series

Went and dragged them out....
I have 2 like yours and one of the classic scale type...a Traveler variant.

Like this Traveler variant from SAKWiki...

One of my oldest Wengers is this is an Adventurer from the early 1970s. When I found it, it was super cruddy.. I gave it 30 minutes in an ultra-sonic cleaner filled with Windex and it was better but not clean by any measure.

Very nice, I like the design of the can opener, it looks a bit "different" from others.

This guy was one of the grungiest SAKs I've ever seen. First, I washed it in hot soapy water, scrubbing it with a toothbrush. When I was done, it went from horrid to terrible. Several cycles in the ultra-sonic cleaner and Windex made it fairly presentable. There is still gunk between the scissor blades and I can't even imagine what is under the scales -but it is a beauty to me :tu:

Very nice, I like the design of the can opener, it looks a bit "different" from others.

I haven't used this particular knife's can opener, but I have used another Wenger dog-leg type can opener some years ago. It works, but it leaves quite a ragged can lid that is a pain to dispose of. I much prefer the newer Wenger opener and the current Victorinox is the best opener on a knife - OMO.

Possibly a case of form over function, I had to look closely to be sure it was the opener. Don't change what isn't broken!

Decided to take a group shot earlier of my Wenger Rangers.
Forgot to add both Ranger models from the United Woods Set
Plus the small collection of 120mm Rangers.

There's also a further 5  130 Rangers expected shortly to add to those above.

And then.....and then....

That's it  :ahhh

Obviously there are several missing that I don't have, nor do I actually see myself getting such is the rarity these days.

The Snow 97, 181 SpearFishing, Ranger 67, Alinghi Rescue Knife & Squadron Rescue Knife will become part of my Holy Grail.

I also picked up the matching 85mm models which complete the sets of those shown below.
Once everything's in, I'll begin systematically grouping and photographing all the sets.

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

One  There should be at least three 130mm Alinghi knifes (can't tell the black ones apart but presumably he would have put them together). And certainly the red Alinghi knife is missing.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Great collection. If you're interested there's also a Ranger 55 with blue handles done for the Swiss Border Police (Grenzwachtkorps).
