Hey All,

I'm new to using paracord, and am trying to make dog show leads that have pandora beads on them... my first problem is making loops either end of a single piece of paracord! Is there anyone out there that can give me some tips??
Thanks very much

Very nice.  I especially like the fact you put the top set on black split-rings, just adds a little something. :tu:

I have got to figure out how to make a long turk's head...it's the only one that continues to devil me to no end!  I can do a regular turk's head, (ends up in a ball or a a bracelet) but I cannot figure out how to make long one (like a fob or lanyard length).

If you're like me you'll normally carry hand sanitiser in your bag. Ain't no use stuck in there  ::)

What you need is a germ grenade  :tu:

Very easy to do; it's just a cobra knot with the excess weaved in and out of the loops :D

I had the same problem not to long ago. Follow this instruction but add an equal number of turns. Example: The video shows 3 turns...to do a longer longer one make it 6 or 9 and so forth.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

You guys should be selling these things your making they are really good and it is great to see that knotting has not gone the way of the dinosuar well knot yet anyway, you can use paracord to do most if not all of the scoubie stitch style knots as well. I made quite a few for various MT and Knives will have to get a few pics up me thinks.
I love my leatherman tools like I love my lady an kids !

Been reading this massive thread. Does anyone know how to cut paracord in a way that will not allow it to unravel? Right now I use wire cutters, which gives a clean cut, but then I have burn the end to keep it from unraveling. It doesn't look too good sometimes. Thanks.

You can buy a special cord cutting heated tool aimed at knot tyers in the US from only one company as far as I am aware it has a heated blade so cuts and seals at the same time very handy gadget got mine from the states they run off a standard AA battery but are effective all the same.

I usually cut it with something sharp, then I burn the very tip and before it cools down I press it onto a smooth piece of metal so it becomes flat.

The problem with burning the end is that it blackens the end and 'uglifies' it. Using a special heat source may work better. I use a lighter.

@rayraychil
Can you provide a link to that cutting tool?

I use the blade on my Helmsman to cut the cord on my projects and if you are patient, you can use a lighter to singe the ends without turning them black...hold the lighter just close enough to melt the cord end but not in the flame.

Take an old knife and heat it up till it glows red.  It will seal the paracord as it melts its way through.

As others have said heat an old blade. I use old crappy fake SAK and heat it over the gas hob; works a treat  :tu:

Just FYI, I found an excellent tool to use for cutting the cord and making it look good. I actually cut the cord with a pair of wire cutters. This leaves a clean cut. I suppose you could also use a razor blade. Then, I found a hand-held butane blow torch at Lowe's. It was $20. It makes a nice blue flame that when lightly touched against the clean cut of the cord melts it without much discoloration or "ugliness."

That's the Helmsman. Differences from the Skipper: No pliers, backspring phillips and awl, no corkscrew.

Yeah, I knew it was thinner, with a few less tools.
But don't you just love those textured blue scales?

The last 2 are reflective paracord. Shot with flash to show the difference.

dang, you guys are good. I just recently started doing them knots, but I see now that I need much, much more practice, aside from the fact that I cant seem to get paracord still.

Last thing I made was a monkey fist on a shoestring budget, quite literaly as I did use a shoe string. I will put some pics up later.

double post, cant it be edited??

Ok, I have here a pic of a monkey fist with snake weave with a shoe string, not the best of examples, but not bad for a first run.

also, my current inability to get paracord of any other color than white is limiting my current offerings.

I must reiterate the past post, I have ways to go b4 I can make the stuff I have seen here, but hey pratice makes perfect afterall.

keep up the good work (and providing me with expamples :) )
