I jumped into the world of 18650 power and picked up a Nitecore P12.  The thing that got me was the 1 lumen low for 520 hour run time.

Though the 950 lumen high didn't hurt either. :)

I had picked up an EA4, but it was too bulky on my hip, and lacked a clip.

Yeah, I can believe that. :D  Still a good looking light but not one I think I'd want to try and carry on my person.  But then I've never carried a 'D' sized maglite that way either, so there is still a place for bigger lights I think.

picked up an MT7 off ebay, seller was selling it cheap for parts as the tail cap was stuck.  when it arrived i got the tail cap off with some pipe wrenches, the seller had put one battery in the wrong way up, the battery leaked and welded the threads stuck. After a bit of a clean the torch now works perfect  :D

I've just received a Preon 1 direct from 47's to accompany my Preon 2.  Great lights IMO. Also love the Fenix E01 and E05.

Bought me a newbie, nothing special, but scrounged me up a few $$ to get me another CREE Q5 Led Flashlight Torch Adjustable Focus Zoom Light Lamp, but this time it comes with two rechargeable 14500's/1200mah, and a charger. I've been running my other light off of AA's so now I'll have two of the same lights both off of 3.7 rechargeable's, gotta be better then waisting regular AA's, no? Only thing is I don't think there Li-ion batteries? How big of a deal is it to have the Li-ion? I'm not an everyday user of the flashlight? It's more or less just to have on hand as a EDC, and a nightstand.. JR

I've had my Eagletac T200C2 for a couple of weeks now and its great  :tu: The mode spacing works really well for me, the beam is exactly what I was after and it works well. I'd looked at the P12 but wanted a bit more throw.

At the same time I bought a 14500 to try my Zebralight on, and wow. I know it's only for a short blast but over 500lm of flood is both very impressive and actually remarkably useful.

if it's a 14500 or 3.7V it's a Li-ion, but 1200mAh is rather high... my Eagletac branded one is only 750mAh.
Obviously running them from rechargeables has an advantage in not using up primaries, and both NiMH and Li-ions have a lower internal resistance than alkalines so will be able to supply your light with more power for longer. In extremely low output terms the alkaline might win, but in anything else the rechargeable will. They also have a flatter discharge curve, so less drop off as the cell depletes. This can be a bad thing when suddenly you went from full light to very dim, but mostly it's a good thing as you get full brightness for longer.

If it's a cheapie non-protected 14500 I'd be a little concerned, but a lot of that is me not knowing enough about them. In reality your mobile phone has a similar battery.

After finding it turned multiple times through inadvertent contact, even though the electronic lockout was on, it has migrated to my bag as a backup.  I like the 4 aa format, but it desperately needs a mechanical lockout.

The lights don't even have to go out.  All you need is something in a dark/shadowy area that you can't see and voila ! justification for a bit of extra light.  I use a flashlight all the time when it isn't dark.
