Here's a new one configuration.  Well basically it is my standard phillips/openers mod, but with a mag glass.

There is always more parts than it seems, for these mods.  I still make custom washers for all the layers that need it.

To get the mag glass to sit nice and low, I removed a rounded recess in the springs, and also the nub from the mag glass.  Without both of those tweaks I dont like how high it sits.

Cheers!

Syph, do you have any issues with extracting the magnifier without the nub?

None at all.  It still sits high enough that pinch opening is easy.

The old gray mags are so much more fitting for a yeoman.  Much hard to come across now though in good condition though.  I've only got a few left now, but at least the newest mags are glass again, and I have more on the way.

Hi Syph love your work  :)
I was thinking of having a go at some moding myself and I was after some help.
When you started out using the Solo springs for the scissors (before you made your own)
did you space out the scissors or did you grind the spring down a little so the spring had some clearance?

Yes you need to grind the spring some, but not too much.  The solo springs work much better with the fat scissors handle types too.  The modern ones have a slimmer thumb rest area, but if you use the slightly older ones that have a larger thumb rest, they work very well with solo springs.

Does that mean the new scissors sit lower when closed?
And by older do you mean the scissors that don't have the hook as the back tool?

Nope not that old (but those will work), but before the brass rivet they use now.  There have bee 8 variations of scissors that Ive seen so far, but if you compare the part where your thumb goes, the current scissors are thinner than the older.  The current ones with a solo spring will sit too low, or you can splice in some metal to act as a rest.

I'll dig out the different scissors later today, to show what I mean.  But if you can find the thicker thumb rest ones, they work just perfect.

Whoo hoo!  Im restocked on white scales!   The BO tools and white scales were crazy popular, so the stormtrooper will be a standard mod item I will carry.

I even did 4 sets of cadet scales this round, to make some minis.   :D

Hard to tell with the overcast lighting, but I did an old cross and soldier shield as well.

I really like the Bi-Color scales. I have always wanted a Black and Silver alox for my Raiders. The white scales looks amazing and a white Cadet sounds sweet! I still need to get a custom by you, but need to save some money. Hopefully soon enough. Great work Syph.  :tu:
