Syph,
Will you be selling kits with scales, liners and screws for the home hobbyist?

Yes my plan will be 2-fold.  To continue offer modding services to those without the tools to do the mods on their own, and to sell scale/liner/pivot kits to convert their own.  A drill press would still be required to drill out the tools, but the rest of it is just simple tools to do the converting.

I would buy a large box of those! With 93mm and 91mm Scales and liners in various colors.

Interesting times!  :sak:

I was chatting with my electroplater today and he mentioned they have a new dye color in......  orange!

Im prepping scales this week and I should have hard anodized ORANGE SCALES next week!  :D

It will be a dark matte orange.  Im super curious to see how it will turn out.

Not to take away from the rest of your work ... but this is what I am waiting to see! Cerakote is pretty awesome, but HA is perfect!  :gimme:

Ok, I was excited to do a test fit together of all the parts.  Some parts still need final sand and polish, but the major nicks are sanded out of the drilled holes.

Starting from the back side scale with posts.

(Image removed from quote.)

Plus first layer...

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

Plus scissors...

(Image removed from quote.)

Plus opener layer.. no saw layer on this first test mock up, didnt want to push my luck.

(Image removed from quote.)

Plus top scale!

(Image removed from quote.)

And some fully assembled shots...

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

It's close to finished but a few details to tidy up.  I still need to grind a little on the scissors back spring as well.  I think I like the silver torx screws fine, I might try black to see how it compares.

Cheers!

Syph what is the price for silver alox pioneer with scissors?

Using up some more 84mm parts today.  Here is a voyageur with cut down 91mm scissors.

I went with recessed button heads on this one, and its for sure the way to go on 84mm builds.  Much stronger feel with max pivot extending into the scales.  They dont really even stick out further than stock rivets do.  I recessed them about half way into the scales, so the pivot gets half as well.  All tools have excellent snap.

I was low on farmers so I grabbed a bunch lately for teardowns.  I forgot farmers are nicer to rip apart, you only need to drill out 2 pins and the 3rd you can cut with side cutters.  This works since the saw backspring falls out after you remove 2 pin.

So it's 33% less work to take apart alox farmers for donors.  :tu:

Here's a mod Ive had on the bench for awhile, that has stalled a bit and I need to figure out a solution.

The goal was to get a scalpel blade holder on a SAK... I cut down one and made a pivot and it fits and works well, the problem is i needs to sit far down to keep the sharp blade hidden, but there is no way to pull it out.  All I can think of is to graft or bolt on some metal and form a nail nick on that... but I keep trying to think of an elegant solution.

The first pic was barely loaded and I knew this would be pure awesomeness!!!!

Thanks Syph for all your moding greatness. It just made my day!!!

p.s. could you make a blade holder, from scratch, with a nail nick like the ones on the drivers of a LM Juice?

Ya that would be the easiest I think, and probably safest way to open a very sharp tool like this.  The only problem is that is has to stick up high enough so that when in open mode it clears the backspring.

The customer that wanted this sent me 2 holders just in case I messed one up, so I have a spare if I mess up completely.  This build will be very unique for sure though, its got alot of specific tools in one custom SAK that is for a very specific task which is picture framing.  It has a serrated small blade on there too.

Indeed, if not high enough it would just hit the backspring and it wouldn't open...

Depending on the position of the tool, wouldn't it be possible for you to make a cutout on the handles to facilitate the access to a nail nick?

BTW, I thought you were just experimenting.

How about a thumb stud? You could cut a little notch out of a scale before ano and then that would work. It would also aid in keeping better hold of the blade ;)
