This was a two mod build day, and here is the second. :D

So this request wanted the scissors to open like the blade?
Say my name.

Yes, I wanted the scissors, like the blade, to be farthest from the lanyard attachment. They are intended to be the most used tools.

While i can appreciate the hard and beautifully done work on the TI one - Which is a mighty fine example for the auction - I would go for tha black one any day as a user.

The TI one will raise some funds and soem attention, I´m sure.

Congratulations of your recognition!

Why does this sentence:

I am also building a Ti cadet with saw and scissors.

make my heart flutter?

Nice! :D

I don't think being precious about a limited edition makes much sense if unless you are keeping it as an investment. If it can be turned in to a tool you would use and get enjoyment from, makes sense to me :tu:

I think she's a beauty, and if Victorinox would get off their ass and produce more than 50 at a time, there wouldn't be this limited issue crap

I know the marlin spikes are pretty cool, and Id love a few mods with them for myself.  I got one marlin spike old cross in a trade, but I dont want to cut that one apart.  And paying 70+ for a new Vic just because its limited I just wont do.  Now.. thats not to say I wouldnt make my own marlin spike someday though.

If I won, there would only be a few things higher than your sak on the list- The rifle, the damascus Bowie (I am a sucker for it), and the hand forged knife (also a sucker).  So you would be #4 :) .  In fact, I might just pony up some scratch for the chance.

Cheers

I had more Ti work to do today so I needed to solve my Ti dust makes scary fires problem.

This 4x36 belt grinder is what I do most of my roughing work with and it had a plastic housing underneath that just really got in the way.  I ripped that off and bolted on a meat loaf pan from the dollar store and filled it with water.  Worked great as the hot Ti dust ended up in the water pan and no fires today! :D

This project is a 4 layer full 84mm conversion.  Cadet with saw and scissors.  After I rough cut the scales and liners, I make a Ti sandwich and sand it all together.

Doing it this way is an nice way to make sure all the liners and scales mate up perfectly.

And the result of lots of grinding.  Still needs surface finishing and scales need profiling though.  But at least I dont have to worry about Ti dust building up and combusting now. :D

Great work!

The thing that is really great about Bob is that he makes custom knives.  If you look around on the net, there are many knife makers, and knives, listed as 'custom.'  Just ask one of these makers to change a small detail on one of their designs.  They won't do it, and usually won't even respond to the request.  They are not custom knife makers.  They make high quality knives by hand, but they are not custom.

Want a knife out of certain materials, with certain colors, with certain...  Bob just says... OK, you got it.

I am going to need a second mortgage when he starts designing/creating his own tools.

I feel like a new parent, looking at ultra-sound pictures.

seems like you once mentioned the possibility of ti back springs.
any progress finding the proper alloy there?

id like to do a stripped down hiker, all in ti and carbon fiber...  ultralite hiker.

Im going to try making a blade backspring first and see how that goes.  I have the right thickness here to try.  I'll use the 4-6 alloy first and see how that goes.  Now that I can carbidize the springs I dont see a problem with making them.  Im curious if I make them the exact same profile if they will have more or less snap than stock ones.   :tu:

The nice thing about Ti is you can heat and bend fairly easily too.

I can see the appeal of an ultralight for backpacking for sure.   :tu:
