I must agree with Magic Bus, the yellow scales look very nice.  I’ve had many yellow cars, but, never a yellow SAK.  The closest I come is today’s pocket time Stayglow unit.

 They really are lovely.    I've had a Classic for years now and a Spartan with some advertising but the clean 91mm Yellow is very pleasing to my eye.

PS. the only Stayglow scales I ever had I gave to my Dad many years ago now.  I assume he still has the SAK somewhere.  I put them on a Mechanic I think.

Unfortunately, no SAK is getting pocket time today for me because I’m at a FIRST Robotics competition at a high school basketball arena and they had metal detectors at the entrance.

Instead, my EDC today is a folding Allen wrench set and a pair of Knipex Cobra 4” pliers, which are actually more useful for robot repair than a SAK.
Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

A belated thank you! I love the enthusiasm as well. It's why I still volunteer as a mentor years after I graduated.

We made it to the finals before we were eliminated, but the students had a great time and (I hope) learned a lot about how to improve the robot.

I managed to bring my SwissChamp and Executive into the event when we reentered after lunch, but by then our bot was having problems that were too big for a SAK to solve. There were hammers and Dremels involved.

The Rambler is a near constant companion.  When I carry a 91mm SAK I have tended towards 4-5 layers recently but there is still a lot to be said for the good old Spartan.  8)

Just a simple Spartan + Rambler combo today.

I've been carrying the Deluxe Tinker almost exclusively for a couple of months now. I think it's a great model and the size feels great in the hand but.... I just don't ever seem to use the pliers! As a homeowner, dad to young children, and unofficial office handyman, you would think the pliers would come in handy - I certainly did. But    :dunno:

I think the pliers are amazing for their size and have performed well the couple of times I actually have had a chance to put them to the test. I just don't seem to get the opportunity very often for whatever reason.

Besides that, there are always dedicated pliers around the house of various sizes. I even have a small pair of Channellock pliers that I keep in the bag I take to work with me on the days I'm in the office.

The inline Phillips on the Explorer would be useful to me much more often (especially combined with the smaller Phillips on the Rambler - those two would cover your bases!).

I thought those things were called grabbers?  Anyway, I knew what you meant.  Are you psyched for your challenge?  I would help, but don't have a Sportsman.  Best wishes.  Gary

Yeah, I'm excited about the Sportsman Challenge!

April is also my birthday month so I thought it would be fun to do a challenge then, especially with a model that I haven't spent a lot of real time with (despite owning for some time now...). You have reminded me though - I need to scour the big auction site for a Sportsman with the older style file. Mine is one of the newer models and I thought the comparison would be fun/interesting during the challenge too.

On another note, I may carry the Explorer around for a while and see if I get more use out of the inline Phillips than I have the pliers on the DT...

I found the same with the pliers Marlowe. Great for pulling hair out of a drain or the odd reach and grab. One unexpected use I found is using the little indent on the pivot as a thimble to push a needle, then pulling the needle using the actual pliers. Surprisingly useful, but again rarely needed for EDC.
