Thank you! I'm glad if you like it.

The scales are made of aluminum. The pattern I do with a Proxxon handset (like dremel) and a ball head milling. Polish and anodize. Finished.

Don't quite think so ..... ?? ???
Aren't there a couple of steps missing ..... ??
  • Mill handle w Proxon drill......
  • Paint milled handle all over with coloured paint.
  • Sand down to bring back top layer to metal.
Then
  • ...... Polish and anodize.
  • Then  .... Finished ?? .

Just guessing !!  :)

Introducing the Praetorian SAK (Not sure if get to give it a name, but I'm going to anyway!)

I loved my factory SAK Tinker so much but always felt the can opener (although I did use it on the odd occasion) and the small knife (barely used!) were redundant items for me. The eyelet in the reamer was also something I've never had need for (plus an awl is better for paracord work with the rounded edge) and felt restricted by the central philips, especially as it sees tons of use.

Enter my dream SAK – The Praetorian. Lose the spare knife, lose the can opener, side mounted awl, side mounted philips, one decent blade and some awesome looking black Alox scales and a smooth pocket clip.

Steve was brilliant to work with and the finish on everything is just incredible. Great attention to detail. This is going to get regular use for the rest of my life I imagine. And one day passed onto my son.

Thank you tattoosteve99!!

Oh I like that!  I got my first 74mm in and Im still not sure what exactly do do with it.  I think I might just rescale in Ti and keep it as a gentlemans knife.   I do like the idea of adding the 58mm phillips combo though..   But then Id need to get extra 74mm springs...

I just worked out what the donor knives for this build cost...

Not including postage there is about Aus $75 invested in it.
Okay I have a few leftover parts but all the good stuff had gone into the MidiChamp.

This has been on my pipeline for such a long time. Now it's ready:

A 84mm Climber with Long Nail File and the old style awl.

Yes, it got custom scales.
Plus scales, indeed. This is a thread for show off, so it doesn't even miss a pin or pen. ;-)

Did I mention, those are buffalo horn scales, and I attached them without glue this time? ;-)

The bail was a four layer bail. Some bending, some tapping and polishing.

This knife will be my second EDC in rotation with my 84mm ebony golfer with LNF. Can't decide which I like most.

Absolutely beauty.
I prefer 84mm size over 91mm for my pocket.

Here's my first mod - I call it the Tom Sawyer (it's a Woodsman really). Modded from a Swisschamp and a Huntsman;

It's a toolset I use most as an EDC and is much easier to pocket than a Swisschamp!

Next up is to mod the rest of my Huntsman into a Camper..........

A USB Rambler with keyring at the spring instead of the USB closure thing.

Note the alignment of the tools. I tried a lot different configurations. I think this is one of the best (if not THE best) compromises between access of the tools and moveability of the USB stick and keyring.

USB in the middle looks the best btw.

Some lovely things there!

The ebony one from HankSolon is mine! Have ordered a swisschamp xlt pouch to carry it to work in.  It measures 43 mm wide, just like the xlt.  I love it...absolutely awesome!!!

A had a non standard request for a pair of slim 3 layer customs.  The catch, no corkscrew on back since they were getting custom scales that have no cutouts.

I used the awl from the opener layer to replace the corkscrew.  It worked fine but needed a very tiny 0.010" washer as the awl is thinner than the blade layer, but it worked.  The only other tweak was that the heel of the awl needs some stock removed to have it sit high enough for the nail nick to be accessible.

I used full inner liners for the outer scale since they dont have the corkscrew cutout.  I also used the older thicker main blades so that the main blade didnt need that hump spacer the modern back liners have for the blade.

Well this is a cool mod.

Watch out for the custom scale at the blade side. The inner side of the scale and the liner aren't straight but slightly bended. If you forget this and make a straight scale, the combo tool will scratch the main blade. This is something I learned from my first mod, a special mechanic.

Edit: However, if I look at the pictures again, there is some distance between blade and combotool but the combotool sits very close to the liner. Still would worry me a bit.

Now that looks like a very useful tool combo.

I'd prefer it with smooth backsprings though without the backlayered tools and the Pioneer inline awl instead of the combo tool. Can't remember ever using the back layered chisel or technician screwdriver and the in line awl is a 1000x better (not even an exaggeration :P ) than the backlayered one.

It could be done with smooth backs for the saw layers, but it would be tough to get the blade on a spring with no backside tool.  I asked if he wanted the chisel and he figured the more tools the better in those 3 layers so I just went for it.
