Perhaps it's the same principle as the groove on some hunting knives (and the claws of all natural predators): allow the air (and/or blood) to go out as the "implement" goes in?
That sounds plausable :tu:

But... cork?

Might also be to improve gripping texture or increase surface area. ::)
Got those frog legs.

If the aforementioned principle is in use, then the pulling should be easier, as there will be no pressure difference between the inside and outside of the bottle. Just speculating though...

Good grief you lot  :o I'm nearly at the bottom of a bottle of French Red that I opened with a Vic Waiter . pressure difference between the inside and outside of the bottle didn't come into it  ;) I just pulled like hell till the cork came out . The Waiter performed without a fault and the wine is very nice thankyou . This is one battle Vic wins over Lm any day  ;)

As you would expect, I disagree ;) The "assist" on the Juice and Flair make levering the cork out much easier. No pulling like hell when you've got the right tools mate .......

... leaves quietly......

Ok but good luck finding a flare, the juices are abundant I agree however you forget that every other SAK comes with a corkscrew and at 30k produced each and every day chances are you'll have one at hand to open your bottle of sip.

All true!

I have RA, so I actually find removing corks a bit troublesome, which is a real bitch because I drink quite a lot of wine!

At home, I have a big contraption that someone bought me for Christmas a few years ago that is definitely the best corkscrew I've ever used, but failing that the best corkscrew I carry around with me would be the GAK, as there's more handle to grab hold of!

I used to come here a lot.

Nice Stormdrane like the pic, good job bringing the post back on track, although I'm still not satisfied with the fluted vs non fluted corkscrew debate zzz.

I just thought the Swiss were helping us clean the lint out of our pockets with the fluted corkscrew.   :D

 I seem to recall from past SOSAK threads that Victorinox say that the fluting was there for aesthetic reasons only and had no practical application.  I can live with that :)

Nah... That's too dull and boring to be true... Here's another use for that corkscrew: feed a paperclip or other wire through the ridge to create a mini spring! Or perhaps there's a kitchen sink add-on that uses the fluting as a rail to snap onto these SAKs. :sak: How's that?  :D
