The Eldris has a compound grind, a scandi grind at the heel for heavy-duty cuts and saber-type grind on the belly and tip for fine carving and food prep.  Taken from Web.
I appreciate the assist!   :hatsoff:

Thought I’d sharpen the back of my companion HD for use with a ferro rod, looks so easy on YouTube

Got there eventually but that’s some hard steel. Took about 20 minutes, after a bit of trial and error found it easiest to place the file on my knee and work the spine up and down from there.
Finished off with a couple of different grit sandpaper’s to get the grain back, strikes well but will take more work until I could make tinder shavings with it

I was wondering how much work that would take, I've probably seen some of the same videos as you.
There was another video I saw that said to flatten about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the blade nearest the tip.
That way you keep the 1/3rd near the handle more rounded
for your thumb to rest on when feathering wood for fire sticks.  :dunno:  Could save you some extra work, just a thought.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Thanks for the tip FB (no pun intended :tu:

It’s good enough to strike a ferro rod and still comfortable so will probably leave as is now. I did more for the experience than actual need as always have other things I could use on me

:hatsoff: to Mora fit their steel, thought the spine would be a bit softer

Er yes temporarily :twak:

Not the smartest place but only got the vise the other day and as the TV sits on a plank was best place to test it not having a shed or garage.

I was careful on this test not to point the file at the TV, but will have to find a more sensible spot, an accident waiting to happen :twak:

I bought this Erik Jonsson knife today, it is in route.
It is made in Mora, Sweden, but not a Morakniv so I hope it's okay to put it here.
Here is some history on this name.
