Just got given a bowie, it's fitting in alright so far.

If I go to New Zealand I'll have to pick up one of those!

My bush knife. It has skinny camo G10 handles so I wrapped it in 3 meters of OD paracord in a Cobra stitch.

A big skinner I made some years back from a chainsaw bar. Managed to keep the "Remington" brand-name visible with a bit of careful positioning and by using clear perspex for the grips.
Admittedly it's more of a looker than a practical blade, but I like making stuff like that.

After thinking about it for a bit, in a previous thread I got one of the Ontario RBS-9 Knives in Tan-Micarta. I wanted a decent, cheap, larger knife.

It arrived today in a nylon bag, sealed from the factory. 1095 steel.

Came with a decent looking sheath with lots of adjustable straps on it.

First impressions:

Feels lighter than I expected and looks smaller. I really expected a huuuuuge knife.
The handle is nice though it is a bit small and could be a problem when used with gloves. My hand fits tightly in it without gloves though.
The knife has a “begging to be used” feel, which is rare. Nicely balanced.
The grinds are not that even and they could have done them better. Slices paper easily.

It has on its blade RD-9 Bush, so originally I assumed they made a mistake, but it seems both RBS-9 and RD-9 are marked the same.
The RD-9 is heavier, marginally shorter and has a thicker blade and different steel; also more expensive.

Picture time:
Length:

Weight:

A comparison picture:

For your reference the Ontario weighs 430g, the Outback 817g (nearly double) and the Marbles 422g (about the same as the Ontario!)

The blade thickness for the Ontario is 4.44mm, the Outback 6.64 and the Marbles 2.16mm.

Price comparison:  Marbles x3 = Ontario    ->   Ontario x 3 = Outback

Questions:
1. So, how many times more than the Marbles does the Outback cost?
2. How many times better does it cut?
3. How many times cooler does it look?
Only for very advanced pupils…  ;)

I'm not really a big fixed-blade kind of guy.  I have a couple, but folders interest me more.  However, I got an opportunity to get this big boy in a trade last week and I jumped at it.  Seen here with the knife that opened the package.....  :)

Knives of Alaska Bush Camp knife. AUS8a, 6" blade, 10 1/2" overall.  Very nice grip, and a nicely balanced knife.  Can't wait to give it a workout.  :tu:

I got this knife in a goody bag when I went hunting this past weekend about 40 miles west of Kerrville, Texas on Interstate 10. My host home made up the bag and it had a really cool calf-roping rope cross, a leather key fob with my initials branded in it, a t-shirt, a signed pic of Ted Nugent and other goodies. The handle is an axis deer antler base and was hand made by one of the guys that I hunted with, he works at the famous YO Ranch.

Yeah, that's about right. I don't have it with me right now as I'm in a doctor's waiting room. Sorry for not scaling it with something.

I do not have many fixed blades. Two factory Bucks and couple scandi knives, that I put handles on them.

Given Santos' post, looks like I'm just in time to share a pic of my BK14 with the orange handle scales just installed.

I can't believe how much nicer it makes this little knife!  I'm totally in love with this little thing now!  Feels perfect in my hand; I think it'll make an awesome little camp/utility/bush knife!

I didn't think the orange scales worked that well. Those beads and paracord really balance it out

I like the visibility aspect of the orange.  I've really come to like that kind of lanyard with the pony beads... simple to make and use, and very effective too.
