I dont blame Ethan for wanting more, but after all the hype about only 450, there has to be something that makes this one different from the others. Im glad I got mine when I did! I hope Ethan keeps putting out great designs like this. Great guy too.

Glad you like it. I'm sure its a great knife. I wanted one but didnt have the spare cash at the time. Kabar really blew it with the 450 deal. I think that design would sell lots of knifes. Ethan explained his designing of the knife in a thread over at BF. After all the grumbling and whining over at BF about the 450 I was about to puke. Enjoy your new steel it will serve you well for many years!    :)

Great! I have two, that one and an older rosewood #4 in carbon. I have done more with the #4. Light chopping and cutting to test it (several years ago). The #4 fits my XL hand better, but the #1 is great too. The handle ergonomics on these knives are fantastic and the elliptical blade geometry is awesome.

The #4 Survival/Camp knife

The #1 has the potential to be a fantastic field knife but until recently, I wasn't able to get it razor sharp like I wanted... that was remedied that last night on my DC521 Fallkniven bench stone so we will see. I have it in that shoulder bag and plan on using it around here some more. The #1 feels really precise and sure in the hand like detailed work would be a breeze. Flipping it over, the knife again fits the hand perfectly for gutting deer/game. It's an ingenious design. Worth what they charge for them IMO.

The carbon flat grinds can be hard to find, I lucked into this one for sale by an independent dealer/collector.

The US made R. Murphy Skinner is a superb a copy and sold for years by Herters. It is an excellent, 1095 carbon steel knife as well and is around 45 bucks. It's handle is a little more hand filling than the #1 and I have cut lots of stuff with it. Works great.

Here's mine.

Here is a youtube on the original Herters.

I was pawing this RC-3 and noticed the edge was tarnished after being left to rot for all those years. Good excuse to play with some of the toys in the toolbox there....

I used to come here a lot.
