Lovely Smashie! Is that the Gary Mills from BCUK? Nice catch - beautiful looking knife.

Yes it is, although I gave up on that forum years ago. It was buying the Bushcraft Mini from Colinoutdoors that prompted to phone Gary.

You know how it goes after that I bought this knife, a new sheath for the mini and two belts and we ended up talking on the phone for a considerable length of time.

I've been looking for a new bushcraft knife for a while now, The Alan Wood Ray Mears knives cost serious money second had, Steve Wade Cox recently passed away so there is no Ray Mears knife at the moment. I've been trying to buy a Jacklore for the last two years but he's now closed his order books permanently so zero chance of getting one them as well unless I pay through nose  for a second hand one.

I should add this is The Wildcat and it's a serious chunk of 4mm O1 tool steel. I love it. In fact I'm going to ask Gary to make a Mini again with the White miacata scales and red liners for my son so we can have matching knives.

Such a sad passing.

I also looked for one of his "Ray Mears" knives and since his passing the gouging has begun.

So, the postman was kind enough to bring THIS one in...

 :o  :ahhh

Ooo, what is it I hear you ask...

Lo and behold! Varusteleka Terävä Skrama is here!

That smurfing thing is huge... The handle is like 1 1/2 hand grip, and I have shovels for hands :P

Description:
Skrama - as in Scramasax or Seax, a short, single edged sword popular in the Middle Ages. Much like the Scandinavian Leuku it doubles up as a tool and weapon.
A fine name is always nice and the best ones are those with some history behind them - our 21st century Skrama would surely meet the demands of any Saxon
man from "ye good  olde days".

Some specs:
    Total length: 430 mm.
    Weight: 525 g (knife only).
Blade: length 240 mm, width 46 mm, thickness 4,2 mm.
Edge: 34° for chopping, 25° at the base for finer work.
Steel: Carbon steel 80CrV2, 59 HRC
Grip: Moulded rubber, rough texture for a good grip.

The 'Sword' in the sleeper (cross-tie). French 1874 bayonet. It has pretty decent balance, but considering I learned my fencing from watching Errol Flynn movies, I'm a greater danger to the furniture than an opponent.

The image shows up fine when I import it, but is rotated when saved.   :ahhh

I have one of those as well. Brought home from the Great war by my great grandpa.

I'm sure you know it's a bayonet and not a sword   :pok:
