Powernoodle Day 04

I've been growing broccoli sprouts as of late for their health benefits and as a hobby.  Cruciferous veg (broccoli, kale, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, radish, etc.) contain a compound called glucoraphanin.   As a defense mechanism, these plants release the enzyme myrosinase when damaged - like being chewed.  The myrosinase converts the glucoraphanin into sulforaphane, which is a truly magical health elixir that suppresses tumor growth and has a myriad of other benefits.  Broccoli sprouts release up to 100x more sulforathane than mature broccoli plants.   Myrosinase and glucoraphanin do not survive cooking, so you get little if any sulforaphane from cooked broccoli.  Sulforaphane does survive cooking, so one strategy is to chop up the raw cruciferous veg, wait a while for the sulforaphane to be produced, and then cook it.  Or just eat it raw and forget about the chemistry.  Broccoli sprouts have a very mild peppery flavor like radishes, and can be consumed in abundance.[/i]

That is some great information to know! Thanks for sharing

Day 4

Picked up a slim 112 to try. Pocket clip taken off as It was super tight. Jack you were right the thumb studs don't unscrew. I tried and got them loose and noticed they are pressed together. I pressed them back for now but may try again later to get them off.

I quite like those assisted opening offering from Kershaw, chives, blur, scallion, leek, all pretty handy and fun to use, though I never quite understand why Kershaw name them all like cooking ingredients.

How?

Pliers and a vise,  after twisting a bit  it popped right off. I think it could be pressed back on later if needed.
