Day 13: Another Buck, this one of the discontinued X-Tracts.  As you'd expect it has a great one handed locking blade, but it also includes scissors, pliers and flat and Phillips screwdrivers, and everything locks.

It's kinda rare to see a knife based MT to have a pliers on board, pretty cool!  :tu:

Oh mannn!! That’s the x tract I wanted! I waited too long and now there aren’t any with that toolset anymore. I snagged the Outu that is similar (two versions of it actually), the CRKT Bivy, and was going to get the xtract next when suddenly they were gone, completely disappeared from the marketplace.  :(

Charles.

Aye, well... My dad had an old percussion musket that lived high above one of the doorways. I used to climb up and get that down too to have a wee play about with it when no one was about. One time, the last time, I pulled the trigger and the hammer promptly dropped off. I speederly put it back carefully balancing the sheared off hammer on its remaining stump... It was YEARS before anyone noticed and despite my protestations (always deny everything) he just didn't believe I had nothing to do with it, what musket, what that thing, looks fine to me, what hammer, what you saying, musket?

That would be an interesting project in itself, how would you plan to execute it?  I am wild guessing a possible transplant from an existing Opinel, or to add a thicker strip of metal and glue it onto the surface of this current ring?

I got thinking about it. Maybe the Opinel ring could replace the original one, without any need to mod. I'll have to check it. Have some different sized Opies, I'll check which one fits better.

If not, I thought about getting a piece of pipe, cutting the slots and replace the original ring. Or getting a flat piece of metal, cut the slots and then roll it until it gets the needed shape.

I am thinking what kind of knife is 'futuristic' looking in my stash, and this particular one comes to mind, Tashi Bharucha Prism, a collaboration between designer, massdrop and Reate.  The wide open two fingers choil allow a very forward grip.  The back handle is completely smooth with almost "integral" design and perfectly flush, which is great when you need to exert force to cut.  It is not a small knife by any means, but the hollowed out handle makes it merely 100 gram and perfectly balanced in hand.  All in all, a functional piece with good design.

Like the futuristic design.

Today's knife is my Winchester trapper. A lovely knife in bone handle and stainless , but a little long bladed for what I need usually.  Lovely traditional look and feel.

Love those trads, mate!

How do you like that Martins? The handle looks weird, but it's very ergonomic, right? If it's anything like mine, it's razor sharp!
