Pfrsantos, your post just reminded me a post DKS made long while ago about his trip to Lisbon.  Is there particular brand that you would recommend which will best represent this pattern or even the Country?  (like when someone mention Victorinox, people would associated it with Switzerland, or Mora to Sweden, etc)

These knives are know as Palaçoulo, the small village near Miranda do Douro, in northern Portugal. The traditional cutlery is the main "industry". They awlso make kitchen knives, like the ones I showed in another thread.

Most of them, the really artisanal ones, don't have a particular brand. There are some companies that started producing them in a more industrial way. They've kept some of the original design, but made some "modern" versions, too.

You can find some examples here:

Powernoodle Day 2

Hello citizens!

I'm carrying the Cold Steel Frenzy today.  12.25" overall, with a 5.5" CTS XHP blade inspired by the Japanese Kabutowari.  Light weight for its size at 5.7 ounces.  Not awesome for every day tasks, but fun to carry.  I installed a Sig Sauer Romeo Zero sight on a P365 XL this morning, and opening the clam shell with the Frenzy was too unwieldy and dangerous, so I switched to the short blade on the Explorer Plus.  But if I'm attacked by a wild boar today, I'm ready.

Nice selection so far people. I'm sorry I can't be part of this one as it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.  I really like the Girl Scout knives Sos.  pfrsantos that is possibly the best rendition of a Hobo knife I've ever seen. I'd love to have one.

Alan, sorry to see you go, but always feel free to stop by!

Thank you for the links!  I gonna look into them, some preliminary google-fu seems like the MAM has a longer running history, but both companies have some pretty interesting offering.

Here's a link to the online store I get most of my knives from. They got lots of SAKs and other brands. Here's the traditional's page:

day 2

Smurf day at work almost made me forget this challenge.

Anyway, I won this Buck Bantam in a GAW hosted by Douglas... Last year? 2 years ago?

It's been my work knife ever since and it's keeping up great.
It showed me how I could do with a single, relatively cheap but decent folding knife when properly maintained.

The scales are starting to become a bit wonky, possibly because of slightly loosening rivets. But It's got many years still to go :tu:

Day 2
I received this TANTO,made by Joel Bukiewicz (before Cut Brooklyn) in a trade,on another forum.
Interested knifemakers were paired and we traded knives.
This TANTO is 1/4 thick 154CM,flat ground and hand finished.

Loose Fuzz Day 2

Started off with the Tri-Lite Stabby, but just didn't enjoy carrying it. I can't believe I used to travel (and across borders) with this thing  :ahhh So anyway, I ditched it for something a bit more mature and civilised  - GEC 66.

DAY 2: I started day 1 with a SAK that just arrived via UPS.  Today I have what I think was my first knife.  This is a 50 year old Ulster official Boy Scout knife in the traditional scout-utility pattern.  The faux stag scales are in great condition, the bail long since lost (it wasn't attached very well to begin with).  I didn't know much about knives 50 years ago, and this should have been returned, the back spring for the blade provides no snap at all, and the blade can hit the spring in one spot when closed.  Despite that, it's served me for 5 decades.

Kizer Splinter and Boker Mini Kwaiken.

I think Kwaiken was 'in' maybe a year or two ago, but I do like how minimalist it is.  Maybe a gentleman modern carry.

Anything 1/4 is not just a knife, practically a prybar.  :D

The best tool is the one at hand.
I don't use the knife of my SwissCard lite often at all, but it's there when needed.
And it has other tools as well and compensates for the missing scale tools on other pocket knifes.

Nice! I'm working on a similar knife right now, trying to get it to usable condition.

I have a SwissCard in my wallet but I always forget. Probably because I´m carrying other SAKs as well.

Me too - the Swiss Card lite is always with me no matter what else I’m carrying as it’s always in my wallet! Doesn’t stop me doubling up on scale tool, mind you!

Day 02:

Today's carry is my most recent acquisition, a Buck 102. I gave my last 'Woodsman' away....silly me. Replaced it with this exclusive from Copper & Clad:

The Woodsman is a real gem, and, has proven itself to be an excellent Bird & Trout type knife as well as a nice hiking companion. This one has already served to clip a few herbs and open a box of tea. It's iced tea weather here!

Oh, unlike Fuzz, I'm wearing pants today. But they are the kind with an integrated belt, as such it's nigh impossible to get the sheath on the belt. I've just stashed the 102 in my pocket, sheath and awl.   :tu:
