Day 7: A handmade folder. The design, I believe, is from Portugal or Spain (or both). It's called Bandida (Bandit). It's from a portuguese knife maker, Joaquim Maria Jorge. Wood handles, brass bolsters. Very ergonomic and a great slicer.
What an awesome design!

I think those are some Kershaw's best folders.  I've got two of each of the different sizes from the Chive up to the Shallot in SS finish (mostly because they weren't an inner liner type and were solid scale/liner lock, and it looks like yours are built the same).   I carried the Scallion as an EDC for a very long time.  My favorite is probably the Leek just because it is so easy to sharpen compared to the other recurved blades of the other three.    Top to bottom: Chive, Scallion, Leek, and Shallot.  I traded off some of the others I had (like olive drab, that had an inner liner lock in exchange for these solid scaled versions).  Just personal preference. Those iridescent scales sure are pertty!

I had a black leek that I use to carry some in the Navy, but I bent the blade on it (hence the ZT love now).  I still have a damascus Chive and a green Scallion that my wife claimed shortly after I bought it (over ten tears ago).

Those are some nice little fixies.

I use to always keep a hawkbill in my car door.  Back when cars hand manual windows, an uncle taught me how to use a hawkbill, if someone was to reach in an open car window, to pinch their arm between the blade and frame.  He taught me several things that he felt a young woman should know if she was going to be by herself potentially in questionable areas.  A couple lessons came in handy.

Sad to say, but I think all young women should come fully equipped with a decent knife.

Even more deeply sad to say, I made sure that all the young women in my unit deployed with a good knife.

Day 3: Ruike LD41-B

Today I took one of my lesser used knives out for a spin. It’s a Ruike LD-41, in black. This knife is like a supersized Boker Tech Tool, and that’s because Ruike actually makes the Boker. Any of Ruike’s “M” or “MD” knives are equivalent to the Tech Tool (but have different load outs)

The larger Ruike has one handed opening and a liner lock, plus a host of awesome tools in the various models. The 41 here has a blade, corkscrew, in-line Phillips, in-line awl, scissors, flat head/bottle opener, short rescue blade, scissors, and pliers.

I used it today to take apart a motorcycle fairing so I can more easily move it out of the attic, drill holes with the awl for pins to secure a wheelchair ramp, and cut up the box for said ramp. I also used it to take apart my RC car to get the battery out to charge it.

I like this knife. The backsprings are very strong, but the awl did collapse once and slice my finger a bit. But the lockup on awl and Phillips is FAR stronger than that on the victorinox knives with in-line Phillips, so I’ll take it. Overall I like this larger size far better than my little tech tool.

Charles.

Day 07:

No pricking for me today...but...before today's thunderstorm rolled in I was able to inspect the pea shoots and thin the beets. I'm trying to train the peas to climb up a trellis and not bully the other veggies. A Fiddleback Forge Kephart helped to snip some of those creeping tendrils that were heading for trouble.

Nice looking knife

Out of the Blue was the first album i ever bought with my own money  :tu:

Day 7  E Jonsson, a Mora knife maker that so far hasn't ended up under Morakniv, and Grohmann mini Russell

Beautiful picture of a couple really nice knives.

Day 7: My two biggest SAKs, depending on how you want to define biggest.
Ranger Grip 178 and Swiss Champ.

Great SAKs

day 7

So little variation in the setups

Unfortunately self defense as well as the general utility of a good knife are facts of life that some women aren’t taught.  Some of the things he showed me didn’t require any weapons, but could still mess someone up.  He called the lessons “3 strikes and out” - a combination of 3 moves (the strikes) meant to stop an attacker long enough to run to safety (out).

He is also was the one who gave me a Rambo knife for my 12th Birthday.  I wasn’t sure who my Mom was madder at that year - my Uncle for the knife or my Grandfather for the air rifle.  I was ecstatic and all she kept saying is “She’s a GIRL”.

Both of my daughters are carrying some implement of self defense and are well trained in its use.   I've steered both of them toward karambits and shown them the best method of using them to avoid being the victim and end the problem as quickly as possible and then how to handle the events that may follow regarding legal matters, which unfortunately nowadays is almost as important as the event itself.  (they are both very capable with firearms as well).  I think back to when I was their age, and this wasn't even a consideration at the time.  I hope somehow we can return to how things used to be.

I have one of the Boker Tech Tools that I like a lot and have been consider getting the Ruike LD-41, LD-31 or M-31.

I have the LD-41 and the LD-43 rescue knife. Strangely the 41 wasn’t that sharp out of the box, but both the plain edged and serrated in the 43 are receipt paper sharp. I really like the 41 toolset, but wanted more. Since everything is screwed together I intend to take them both apart and make an LD41 with the serrated blade, saw, and carabiner from the rescue knife.

The only real “bad” thing about the Ruike is that it’s heavy. Both of the knives have a lot of metal and a lot of weight to them. I actually kind of like that, but for pocket carry it may be a bit much for some.

Everything about this tool is heavy duty, except the pliers. It’s built like a tank, with blades and tools far thicker than the 111mm victorinox knives, and even beefier than the 130mm knives. At least the limited few I have. I think it’s a great tool at a stellar price, so long as pliers aren’t your most needed tool it can replace most of a leatherman.

With a SOG Sync I or II on my belt, and this knife in my pocket, I can do anything except very heavy pliers-based tasks.

Getting some rock & chop in action with the cold steel kukri machete and Red Baron's finest pepperoni pie.

This particular kukri machete is one that I bought over 15 years ago when they were first released after Cold Steel discontinued the size designated kukris (m, L, xl) from their product line.

I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.

Huh, Kukris are far more practical in everyday use than I thought  :like:

I was thinking about buying one as a woods clearing tool; but not really for everyday use. I think I might have justified the purchase of one of these a little bit more.

Day 7. Joker of Spain NV76. About the size of a Buck 112 with a carbon steel blade. Bought because "It was only twelve bucks and Made in Spain". Yeah, that's a good chunk of my purchases--because it was cheap... Steel is carbon steel, but it is not revealed what. It sharpens and acts like 1075.  It's a decent workhorse, and not exactly pretty. Ugly but it works. I am almost sure the size of the pins should be bigger. Too bad Buck doesn't do a 5160 112LT or even 110LT. Lightweight carbon steel folders are very, very rare. Even rarer if they have locking blades.

I’m interested to know how you tell that it’s a parts knife post war. It looks like any one of several in my references for Ww2 knives.

It was explained by a military knife expert on another forum that if "USN" was not present on the pile side, it was made from parts leftover. But, I haven't confirmed that quite yet.

Here are some detailed photos.  I made the sheath myself, for another knife 2-3 years ago. I'd put the retention strap on backwards, and had tossed it aside, as I didn't like how I'd gotten all lazy riveting it together. I fixed it, and have used it pretty much exclusively for the Mark 1. Need to buy the purpose-made one for the Kabar version.

Ok. Thanks. Just that I have a reference book with photos of examples and it shows 7 I think variants of the Camillus and it says it could come in blued, bright or parkerized finish and I think 2 didn’t have USN on the opposite side. Not at home at present but will post the photos when I can. Maybe it is a WW2 one. I had to make a sheath for my Pal mk1 too.

Cold Steel Kudu.  It's probably one of the longest folding knife I own, I got it mainly for it's pretty unique locking mechanism, though it may look dangerous to disengage with two hands, the multiple stop from full open to close position did make it safer to operate.

Knife browsing on honeymoon?  She's a keeper!

Day 7
Today is a pair of Iridescent Kershaws -  Leek and Chive.

These knives were my first foray into both assisted opening and flippers.  I fell in love with the flipper action, but eventually realized that I preferred not to have the assisted opening, which is probably a good thing since the way some state laws are written they can and have been considered the same as switchblades/automatic and therefore illegal to carry.  These are also the the knives that led me to look at Zero Tolerance when wanting a hard use knife.

The Chive was a steady pocket companion for several years.  It was just the perfect non-intimidating knife for public.  However, it also had the downfall that it was easy to forget about.  And forgetting about it is what I did before one work trip.  I forgot all about having the Chive in my pants pocket when I left to go to the airport.  Surprisingly and fortunately, the Chive did not set off the metal detectors at the airport.  I did not realize that I had the Chive in my pocket until mid flight.  It caused some internal anxiety of would happen if discovered, but nothing more.  I made sure before the flight back that I dropped it in the mail to myself so I didn’t forget it again.  That same Chive has gone through a couple of metal detector wandings at entertainment venues (where policies were not advertised ahead) as well without ever being detected.

Cool story, one of the few 'decent' knives I have was Leek, and I still remembered first time getting it from a store in mall, the shopkeeper liked it so much that he practically give me a month to bring it back if I don't like it.

Sos24

Charles.
I think Fenix's move to knife industry via Ruike started with pretty good foothold, I don't own a lot of Ruike but the few I have handled, I do feel it offers decent value and could be good performer.

Btw, what truck was that?  Traxxas?  I used to race 1/10 electric touring, and those were some fun time. :tu:
