How about a 30-day Work Champ challenge?
on: April 15, 2020, 08:00:11 PM
I have a new toy and seem to love it wholeheartedly  :climber:

Been searching through MTO for a Work Champ challenge and failed to find any, which is either my bad or a terrible shame  :dunno:

How about having a 30-day Work Champ challenge? Who's in?

1st of May is a Labor Day in many countries, Work Champ's name stands for itself, so let's have it started on this day  :woohoo:

Nice piece of gear.

All the tools there a bigger and beefier than those on the 91 mm range.

Had the slide-lock version of the WorkChamp.

Standard rules - use your Work Champ and post a picture of it every day to this topic. Any version of Work Champ qualifies- either slide lock or liner lock one

I'm totally down for a 111mm challenge!   :woohoo:

It seems like there's a lot of challenges this year already - I'm in 3 of them.  Maybe we can do a 111mm challenge at the beginning of next year - include Workchamps, and Nomads, and Hercules, and Trekkers... the more the merrier.

What's a Workchamp challenge?

Welcome gingerman!

Challenges are a bit of a favorite activity for some here on MT.o.  There is some variation in the exact rules (which are pretty loose anyway; this is all for fun after all) from challenge to challenge, but typically they look something like this:
  • Anyone who wants to participate is welcome to sign up, as long as s/he has a tool that meets the qualifications for the challenge.  Depending on the challenge, a single tool may be specified, e.g. Workchamp Challenge; alternatively, anything from a certain range/family of tools may be acceptable, e.g. 111mm SAK Challenge.
  • To the greatest extent possible (don't break any laws, don't get yourself fired, etc.), participants must carry the challenge tool for the duration of the challenge (typically 30 consecutive days, but may vary).
  • Each participant must post a picture of his/her challenge tool every day of the challenge.  (Action shots showing the tool in use are sometimes preferred, but beauty shots are fine too.)  Often, folks post what they have used the tool for each day as well.
  • The challenge tool must be your "go-to" tool for the duration of the challenge.  If it cannot perform a task, another tool may be used, but this must be documented in the challenge thread.
  • Have fun!

Participating in a challenge can be a good excuse to get a new tool, motivation to try something different (and maybe a little outside your comfort zone), and or just a good time.  Even if you can't or don't want to participate in a challenge, following challenge threads can still be entertaining.

Here are a couple of active (i.e. going on right now) challenge threads:

I'm doing the Soldier Challenge in May, in honor of Memorial Day in the US, and Soldiers and Veterans all over the globe.  If there's plenty of people, the show must go on.  But otherwise, a different month would be better for me.

Cool, sounds exciting as well! Too bad I don’t have a Soldier, so I’ll only be able to watch that one doing the Work Champ challenge

Happy Labor Day, ladies and gentlemen

It’s also Day 1 of my Work Champ 30-day Challenge, so take your seats and I hope you enjoy it

Since I will be carrying it everywhere I bought a new home for it first of all and today trimmed a pen to fit in as well:

I used pliers to push the cap out of it

Then shortened with a saw of course

Now the entire setup is ready

Thanks

I actually did carry it in my jeans pocket for a while - it’s doable, though I prefer either belt or backpack carry within a sheath

Day 2

Ok, so before I got a Work Champ I really didn’t value scissors much. I just didn’t know how useful, comfortable and easy to reach they might be. Doing so much more with them these days. Here’s an example - it’s still pandemic around here and we do wear masks and gloves going outside, so I trimmed the excess elastic ends

The only other scissors I have are on my Micra and Wave. For some reason I did use Micra, but almost never the onesie a Wave - maybe because I have to open a tool to reach them and it was faster to use a OHO blade.
