Day 23
Today I opened some coconuts and used the Outrider's awl to ream out a couple of the eyes on each coconut so I could pour out the liquid before cracking them open.  Less mess that way.

One of the best uses yet!

I've been pondering a SAK Boot Camp Challenge.    Come up with 30 predetermined tasks, and do them in 30 days.  Opening a coconut is definitely one of those 30 essential challenge tasks.

We can come up with the list ... And everyone can do them in the order that they want.  Some would be obscure but essential - opening a coconut would be chief among them.  Another would be sawing through metal.  Yet another might be opening any sort of panel to access the inner workings (I've watched too many MacGuyver episodes).  Some tasks would be common tasks that one may or may not generally do with a SAK, but are considered SAK tasks by virtue of the available tools - for example, scaling a fish, opening wine, or carrying a parcel.  A third category would be common tasks such as cutting string or rope, or tightening a screw.

The tasks can be done in any order, so they can be planned, and the more common uses can fill the gaps.

The only catch is... You have to choose one tool for the whole challenge.

The trouble is... We might all choose a Swisschamp.

Any thoughts?

It's easy. I cut the top off (stem end) then cut down the husk to make 2 or 3 segment then pull those off by brute force. Here's the pictures in the batman challenge.  It's post 311.

That does sound interesting but I don't know that everyone can get a coconut.

That does sound interesting but I don't know that everyone can get a coconut.

Fair enough.  The tasks would be selected by and agreed upon by several of the interested party.  I actually can't think of a panel that I can access...  I figured that in season a coconut would be available in most groceries... But I could be very wrong.  I've been searching for a Holland Chili for years... Apparently this is the variety that's used in the UK and has a somewhat neutral flavor that goes well with a lot of things
