Recycling Christmas trees, always a better idea than just throwing them away.  My friend moves his Christmas tree, stand and all to his back yard and hangs bird feeders and suet bars from it so the birds enjoy it for the whole rest of the year and he gets to enjoy the birds.  Come next year he cuts about two feet from the trunk of last year's Christmas tree and burns it for his Yule log.  It's a wonderful way to recycle the tree.  I've also heard that you can recut the bottom off of a healthy Christmas tree and strip some bark to the cambium layer and plant it in a bucket of potting soil and it will sprout roots and you can then replant it in your yard.  I've been wanting to try that.  I used to collect a dozen or so Christmas trees from around the neighborhood and run them through a chipper to make mulch which I spread on the unpaved part of my driveway.  Got rid of the chipper years ago because it took up too much room for something I used once a year.  I also used to use collected Christmas trees as fenceposts to rope off my living history encampments when I was reenacting. Here's a picture of me telling a group of scouts about cooking in the Renaissance and you can see the Christmas tree fencing around the encampment which would have been mid February to mid March.  Being 100% historically accurate down to my under layers means I was wearing wool and linen in Florida when it was 80+ degrees out.  I must be either crazy or dedicated. :dunno:

Day 05
Used the Adventurer's blade to remove the safety seals from yet another bottle of pills.  It feels like taking pills by the handful a couple of times a day is all I get to do anymore. :(

Still digging the Outrider, would like to get a slide-lock version though.  But the Outrider's main blade assisted me in opening my latest SAK, the Classic:
(Image removed from quote.)
I know what you mean about the slide lock FB, the OHO is much more convenient I reckon. I know some of the tools are a bit beefier on the liner lock but that comes with extra weight.

Was out with the SL adventurer while walking coco earlier and was able to close it so much easier than my LL outrider

:iagree:

I have several knives with it, but haven't really put it to work.  The opener end of things is ok, but not quite as well as the regular can opener.  As a screwdriver it's not bad.
The downward angle makes it feel trickier to use, in my opinion.  I can understand, though, why it's on the Hunter.  On a survival knife, there are definitely bigger priorities for a downed pilot to worry about than tightening screws :D
I have never really bothered with the combo tool Barry. I think I shall see what mischief I can cause with it. Can't see it's got a food preparation role though ... so screw heads are just fine
Barry

I like the sidelock works really well with gloves, as does the one hand opening blade.  The Hunter is the first non OHO 111 I've owned, and I like it but I can see where that large hole would come in handy opening a blade with cold fingers.
