Day 5. So far for the Dual Pro's OH belt cutter; Belt Cutter 2; Clam Pack 0. The belt cutter pull-cuts through that stuff like hot butter. Picked up this Buck set for $12 from the Cabela's website recently.  I'd been looking for it ever since I saw one on the secondary market for $25. I knew I paid $20 for a set with a black 285 and black 283, so that was too much. Best I can tell, the orange molded handle is exclusive to Cabela's.

I haven't uncorked a bottle with a 111 mm SAK yet. Am I correct to assume that thanks to the larger handle, the action is smoother than with a 91 mm?

And with more leverage, undoubtedly better than an 84/91mm as a corkscrew. Mine mostly get used for untying knots. That's what's getting in the way of me getting any 111mm with a marlinspike tool.

I like the sidelock works really well with gloves, as does the one hand opening blade.  The Hunter is the first non OHO 111 I've owned, and I like it but I can see where that large hole would come in handy opening a blade with cold fingers.

That is exactly why I switched over to 111mm OHO when the weather started getting colder back towards the end of last month.     And why I retired the Fireman as soon as I got the Dual Pro X. I can get both the PE and SE blades open without taking off my gloves. I know there is an OH Fireman, but both blades are SE. The whole reason I bought the Fireman (and might I add, a 2007 model at 2007 prices in 2016 at a local store) was separate PE and SE blades.  One thing I haven't compared is glove use and the newer, larger linerlocks over the old low-profile V1 linerlocks of the Fireman. The extended tip of the 11mm wood and metal saws are also easy to get open with your gloves still on.

Also, clumping and large nail nicks on the LM ST300 and Rebar mean I can easily get the tool I want with my gloves still on. It's the one thing I hate about my SwissTool.

My Sentinel is somewhat of an enigma to me.

On the one hand, it is very light and disappears easily in my pocket.

But that same lightness brings about a feeling of cheapness.

I thought of trying my Meton Boss titanium scales on it, but to be honest, I’d never carry it.

If I have a blade only knife, it will be either my Sandrin Torino, Spyderco Autonomy 2 or Benchmade AFO II.

My favorite carry, especially to work,  is the AFO II clipped to my pocket and my modded Pioneer X ( just scissors and modded opener layer...) either in bottom of same pocket or in watch pocket on jeans.

Just so. As Cody notes, there is a bit more leverage. It is easier to rock the handle back and forth and liberate the cork. With the 91mm's I tend to resort to brute strength, but the 111mm offers more mechanical advantage....and, therefore, graceful action.

Day 6 bonus uses

Used Outrider to neatly liberate a Dymo label printer from its clamshell so I can store the printer in it.
Then printed the labels for my new improved (gets your whites whiter, your colours brighter :) ) SAK storage system :like: :tu:

I'm a big fan of the Outrider also. I wish there was a 111mm SAK that was an Outrider plus metal file (like a 91mm Ranger, in other words), but I don't know of one.
I am a big fan of metal file/saw, since I find more use of it in an urban environment than the wood saw.  And I think if I were to mod a 111mm, that's probably one of the idea I'd like to incorporate, to put in an OHO blade and swap out wood for metal file/saw for the Outrider.

Day 5

Getting rid of a band-aid I stepped into. Gotta love them pliers!
Ewwww...but great use! :like:

Recycling Christmas trees, always a better idea than just throwing them away.  My friend moves his Christmas tree, stand and all to his back yard and hangs bird feeders and suet bars from it so the birds enjoy it for the whole rest of the year and he gets to enjoy the birds.  Come next year he cuts about two feet from the trunk of last year's Christmas tree and burns it for his Yule log.  It's a wonderful way to recycle the tree.  I've also heard that you can recut the bottom off of a healthy Christmas tree and strip some bark to the cambium layer and plant it in a bucket of potting soil and it will sprout roots and you can then replant it in your yard.  I've been wanting to try that.  I used to collect a dozen or so Christmas trees from around the neighborhood and run them through a chipper to make mulch which I spread on the unpaved part of my driveway.  Got rid of the chipper years ago because it took up too much room for something I used once a year.  I also used to use collected Christmas trees as fenceposts to rope off my living history encampments when I was reenacting. Here's a picture of me telling a group of scouts about cooking in the Renaissance and you can see the Christmas tree fencing around the encampment which would have been mid February to mid March.  Being 100% historically accurate down to my under layers means I was wearing wool and linen in Florida when it was 80+ degrees out.  I must be either crazy or dedicated. :dunno:
No Sir, you are both crazy and dedicated!  Respect! :hatsoff:

Day 6

Time to get Coco into the 111 action I thought (no surprise to anyone then) she was bemused at best then back to a tasty stick

That's an interesting pairing, and kinda departure from the "2 is 1, 1 is none".  I probably would have carried the 93mm Alox without altering it much, since the extra blade could be used exclusive for food.  But everyone is different. :D

Thanks :hatsoff: I’m on a bit of a mission to tidy everything up and get rid of stuff I’m no longer using …spent a lot of time posting on Gumtree this week, sold some old scuba gear today and a steam cleaner yesterday, cash is going towards storage boxes etc

Started on my tool box today, after 30+ years collecting everything it’s turned into a bit of a job…so many jars of screws, nails, hooks, washers, fasteners etc, drill bits, cable ties, odd keys I’ve no idea what they’re for, rolls of various tapes, solvents, odd one off spanners etc etc :ahhh and that’s before even starting on the actual tools …cathartic really, every job finished has given me great satisfaction…did all the linen earlier too

Good work, Echotech - did the same to jars of spares in my garage a few years back before replacing my kitchen - made finding essential “extras” much easier, and proved it’s worth again last month when I needed a couple of washers to stop my boiler rattling after it’s service - beat ferreting around random jars/tins to find the right bits!  :tu:

Thanks  Rizio :tu: not sure how long it’s going to take, already been at it some time but at least like items are with likes, just not well sorted yet.
Keep coming across things I’d completely forgotten about (some I don’t recognise at all) which I’ve obviously kept in case they’d be useful …for the most part they haven’t!
Like you say, be really good when it’s done and make future projects a lot easier

…and then at some point I have to tackle the big one, 25+ years of studio equipment, this is my current rack (synths and computers not shown), I used to have about 3 times this, a lot has gone, a lot hasn’t! The cables alone take up four large crates :ahhh

I’ve got a .22 fitted to my rifle, but you can change it for .177, .25, .30 or even  .35, but being limited to sub 12ft/lb I’ll stick with .22 which I’m pretty pleased with though the rats aren’t so keen! (though I might get a .177 barrel set in future). Details here if you’re interested https://fxairguns.com/rifles/the-impact/

Has the Workchamp been discontinued?  Been nosing around looking at them and everyone seems to be Out of Stock.

A few places have the older slide lock version, but if I went for it, I’d want the newer liner lock version.

I love my Hercules, but I’d like the addition of the file and liner lock set up.   Guess I’ll keep nosing around.
