Ha ha yep the old "Chinese safety boots".

That's smart, really.  Might lose a toe, but won't ruin a good pair of boots.

Yeah. I'm not certain of the origin of this slang but it's an old one. A funny oxymoron.

Walking through that stuff I was more concerned about snakes, as we have some pretty crazy ones about. Those cabbage tree palm fronds are covered in aggressive thorn type spikes which could certainly be a concern though. But the snakes are the main issue, particularly the eastern brown. Strangely enough there's other quite venomous snakes which I don't mind stumbling across as they aren't so aggressive, like the red bellied blacks. A large variety of snakes at any rate so shoes and trousers are preferred.

I've always liked those.  Several years ago I had the chance at one and passed.  Now I wish I hadn't.

Wenger were always ready to go with "unique".  :tu:

Awesome knife  :like:

Day 21: I picked up a new Cold Steel Tuff Lite and used the PTC's blade to cut the tape seals.

I have an older black handle one, but it came in a used lot; and had a damaged edge and bent tip. I ended up blunting the edge; so will probably end up having it professionally resharpened. In the meantime, since the Mini Tufflite is not an expensive knife to buy new, I bought a new one; this time in red.

I love the Mini Tuff Lite. It's a small knife that carries like a small knife, but it has the ergonomics of a full-sized folder in my medium hands when open, and it can take on big knife jobs.

MTO Delemont Day 21 by cody6268, on Flickr

I also noticed that Cold Steel appears to have moved from California to Grand Prarie, TX. This may be their new parent, GSM Outdoors, however. I'm honestly surprised Emerson hasn't left CA yet.

There were many discussion on BF regarding Thompson selling his ownership to GSM outdoor, and how people felt Cold Steel is on its way down since GSM don't care about the knife community and all.  Personally, regardless what everyone thinks, I think Thompson has worked his entire life in this industry, and he has every right to reap what he sowed.  So far, CS has not entirely fallen apart since then, so I think that's in a way is good news to CS fans.

Well, I figure I should give it a try.

I leave wasps be. They eat aphids. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."  :D

Kill them all!  Purify them with fire and then burn their ashes.  Ladybugs kill aphids and they are more pleasant company.
Wasps don't bother me, but yellow jackets and those bald faced hornets have caused me too much pain. Show no mercy!

FYI- if you sneak up on a bald faced hornet nest and quicky slip a large trash bag over it and tie it shut (also quickly) they'll all be dead in a few days. Then you'll have an intact nest for arts and crafts or muzzleloader wads! This is best done on a cool morning.
Wow, that must be a freezing cold morning for me to do that... :D

Unless there is a large group of them on the nest, I normally dispatch wasps with my ball cap or with my side cutters.

For yellow jackets, I only take them on with a long range spray unless it is a solitary one buzzing around me.

This is how I handle a hornet:

Another great and unusual Wenger comis, been really enjoying seeing your collection  :like: :hatsoff:

That looks cool Cody, kinda reminds me of my Mora Eldris  :like:

That's one cool SAK  :like:

I have no need to be up right now, but I've already started my day.   Sometimes I sleep in until 0500.  :D  It's nice, really.  My wife and the dogs are still snoozing, so no one interupts my online SAK time.
I'm definitely not a morning person, but if I am getting up for something I love to do, it's always worth it regardless how early that is. :tu:

Wenger Standard Issue.  If I remember correctly, it's not that common to see Vic soldier/alox knives to come with bail, and I could never convince myself to EDC one due to its scarcity.  But Wenger SI is the perfect candidate with bail if I want to EDC one.

You just have to be a bit careful not to close the blade on the bail (which I managed to do myself just yesterday )

Day 22

A quick morning goose hunt with the s52 for back up. I used the awl to dispatch a few. The dog brings them back dead or alive. With ammo so hard to get, some guys can only find #2 shot. So the awl comes into play a lot more than if we all were using larger shot as usual.
Stopped and got the wife a Carmel apple on the way home. I'd like to hunt all weekend so it doesn't hurt to keep the wheels greased, so to speak. Anyways, the S52 cut up the apple without any issues.

Day 22:

Mrs Nix is off on her own adventures, leaving me with doddering old Adventure Boy. We tried to go for a walk, but he decided the comforts of home were a better idea after a quarter mile. So, some domestic goddess work on my part, but no real uses for the mighty Rangergrip.
