The Fantabulous February MiniTool Challenge!!!!! 2022
« on: November 01, 2021, 01:02:21 AM »
Well the  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh !!!MINI!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Hasn't had a challenge of its own yet and since February is a short month it only seems fitting that a short tool challenge should be done :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Carry a  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh !!!MINI!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh as your main tool for the whole month of February and try to use it for everything  :D

If you find that it can't handle something then we need to know and tell us what had to be used in its place :tu:

Take a picture each day of the month and post it in this thread along with the day

So lets get this list started  :woohoo:

I will join the challenge if I acquire a Mini Tool between now and February. I am not certain if I will or not. The average price on ebay is fairly high. I think it may be due to hoarding by certain individuals (you know who you are Poncho :twak:).

Joking aside, I probably will try to acquire one. But there are many other Leatherman MTs I would like to have also.

Hope you get one  not one of mine though  I have looked hard many years to get the ones I have :D

I can't believe how expensive they have gotten in the last few years

Seems like everytime we speak of them here on MTO, the prices jump for a while  I know that people watch here because one time I posted pics of a new one that I acquired and the very next day one was listed with the info we were speaking of about it :ahhh

Almost caught one, but it got away  :'(

I was checking out ebay last night and saw a listing that was tempting to me. So I put it in my watch list. Overnight, an offer at a reduced price was emailed to me. When I saw the offer this morning, I was like  :woohoo:

Alas, someone responded to the offer before I could  :(

So, I will have to continue to keep looking.

I think I only paid $15.00 for mine (in 1994).

I paid that for mine in 2017. Camping Survival was a small supplier of camping/survivalist stuff in North Carolina, founded as an off-shoot of a building supplies business. For a short time, about a year, they dealt in secondhand knives and multitools. I bought several from there, but it seems that usually those that would be considered collectible were either undervalued or overvalued immensely. I suspect theft at their area post office may have played a part in why they got out of the business, and moved the camping/survival business to Utah.  One of the last purchases I made before they got out of dealing in used knives was a Camillus USA lockback and Camillus-made Buck 301, none of which arrived; and the post offices in both NC and VA gave both of us a headache trying to track it down.

I also got a Cellidor take on the Victorinox Voyageur for $10.

No, I couldn't do that to you Poncho.  I mean, the thing is 30 years old!  It's not even new because I carried it a couple of times.  If I took advantage of anyone like that it would weigh far too heavily on my conscience, so I think I'd better just keep it.

What’s a Minitool going for these days?

A loose unboxed one goes for USD120 here - slightly higher than a brand new Wave. A ‘new old stock’ is like USD200 (equal to a new G10 Charge).

:iagree: about the prices and especially that someone got a deal :ahhh :like:

The prices have steadily rose on these in the last few years  It is my fault because I have talked so good about them and hyped them

Should have stayed quite and bought half a truckload before telling how good they really are :D

For real though, everytime we have discussions about the  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh !!!MINI!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh here at MTO the eBay prices jump

February is still a long way off and I was signed up for the combo-edge challenge too.  The Poker Face challenge might come back as well, and that was also a February challenge.  The rule about only one challenge badge per month might make for a difficult choice for many of us.

Not that I'm going to buy one (really looking at Micras and ST300s), but I did look at them last night.  Probably bumped the stock price up a couple of points.   A friend of mine gave me the BO Mini with some other stuff when he was doing some gear cleanout.  Of course that was in the days when they were available.
