Day 11

Serrated blades are great for oranges. The teeth bite in just enough to get through the peel without damaging the fruit, or slipping as much as a PE can. The can opener is also a decent orange peeler, if you're carrying a more traditional SAK>

Day 10: The Trekker/Trailmaster/GAK/Soldat's urban brother, the Master RT.

It was produced in 2010 only, and I didn't even know the sucker existed until 2015  when browsing the Wiki out of boredom one day.  Those I did find available for sale were pricey. In late 2016, I finally got one, and the story is a bit odd. Its presence in my collection was an accident.  There was a place called Camping Survival in North Carolina (though, I heard they recently located to Utah as I didn't unsubscribe form their email list until a year or two ago) that often sold used knives and tools for a year or two, and they tended to undervalue vintage SAKs severely (I got my Cellidor Voyageur from them for ten bucks--as well as quite a few other SAKs), but ridiculously overprice everything else. I ordered an M2008 Soldier to give as a gift, and the Master showed up instead. I decided to keep it, and gave another knife from my collection as a gift. It stayed with me as my EDC for the rest of a mechatronics program I was in--cutting hose, turning screws, cutting and filing metal.   Lately retired these days due to the rarity, but sometimes, I have better use for the file than I do a wood saw, so it gets brought out in place of its bigger brother when doing mechanical work. It was my first exposure to the modern cut file (the two Craftsman variants I owned were both the old one), and it's my favorite file on a MT or SAK. ]

I still think I need a Locksmith. The only problem is that it's pretty expensive, and not a commonly stocked model in the USA.

Day 10:

The first day in this challenge that wifey has said “do you have your knife on you?”  :woohoo:

The Soldier 08 was quite overkill to cut some ribbons on balloons, but I keenly obliged her request

Unfortunately I didn’t get any pics of said ribbon destruction

:worthless:

Last couple of days have been pretty dull (knife wise). To make things worse I mostly just carry my CE in the afternoon/after work for ..sigh legality reasons, so with most of my knife needs arising at work and photo lighting being quite lackluster after working hours this time of year, I just haven’t been compelled to take any photos of what little use there has been..
Quite ironic going into a dull once my CE blade finally arrives. Hehe. Life
Seems there are better (knife) times and more photo opps around the corner.

Day 11:

Gerber Chameleon II, early '00s I think. Bought this one on impulse some time ago, and almost never carried it.  Gerber has a similar design, but it's now an import sold under a different model name.

It seems very similar to the Spatha, but I think predates it.

The lock is a long coil spring that runs down the length of the knife but is actuated similarly to Benchmade's AXIS lock.

The execution is super-poor. It's stiff, and apparently was that way since new, as there are rub marks on both sides of the blade.

This is how it's supposed to be used.

Im pretty sure that isn’t exactly how it’s supposed to be used.  Its a climbing knife, and the hole is to be able to quickly stow it away on a carabiner without looking.  The hole also gives you an additional purchase point if you are wearing gloves and need to open the knife while dangling from a harness. It’s meant to be slow rolled open around ropes, and like a sailor’s knife has some built in safety features to avoid cutting the wrong thing. So they tend to be a bit stiff.  If anything, you can put your index fingertip in the hole to avoid dropping the knife down the rock face during use, but I don’t think you are meant to put your finger in to the knuckle like a Karambit.

Merely a suggestion, my good man.

I opened a packet of chicken strips for last night’s dinner with my Skeletool when the “tear here” tab didn’t work as advertised.

Day 12 - enjoying some music and a whiskey to take my mind of a sore body, I joined my wife and her Co worker last night for some games like riding a bull and that thing where you have to jump or duck to not get hit with a spinning arm, I think the obstacles coarse was the most fun but what's hurting the most today  :drink:

And thanks to Barry I now have a new knife on the way. Orange opinel no. 8 with a wishle in the end. My first opinel

Lots of  small cutting tasks today, all weekend actually. Nothing that required a CE, but neither anything that was hampered by it.

It's still good to be prepared for anything on the light days.  Combo blades are good for that.

More box destruction. These boxes had some strapping, zip ties, and those large copper staples. Got to use my two favourite tools, the blade on the box and tape, and the pry bar on the staples!
