Day 23

Back to the Traveler and used the bottle opener to fix a desk leg. I was kind of annoyed that as soon as I put the TC+ away I wanted a Phillips, but this was fine. The tip is a bit narrower than the Vic one, which I assume helps.

@LoopCutter: glad you got some rain! It was dry, but noticeably cooler, here.

@AzteCypher: I'm going to read up on low-tension ignition systems before too long. It kinda surprises me that they're back in use.

@Echotech: that is indeed an evil-looking plant!

@ReamerPunch: that's my favorite multi can opener!

@IMR4198: how about a bug zapper to appropriately deal with those stinky little smurfbirds?

@z1913: The Czech Republic is one of the few foreign countries I'd go out of my way to visit! :tu:

@Humayd A R Mahomedy: :iagree:

@Antti Lammi: the Champ handled the cucumber pretty well!

@BPRoberts: that could be an instance in which the locking cap lifter proves advantageous.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 23

I remembered to see if the Evolution 23 has a Victorinox or Wenger style saw. It's Victorinox.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Evolution 23 and the Security 52 have a very similar lloadout. Other than the tools deployed in the photo, the only difference is the Security 52's locking blade.

I went without an SAK today, just in case the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center wasn't friendly to "weapons." (That turned out to be a wise decision.)

There was a blizzard of stinkers yesterday, but not too many today.  Lots of leaves are turning color and beginning to fall to the ground.  The stinker infestation will be just a memory in a couple of weeks.
I read your post about the Gas Station MREs.  Interesting.  How long would be the duration of the challenge?  I might try it.  I read some of the old posts about the second event that was held.  Might need to read up some more.  Best wishes.  G

Stink bugs are the worst. And those tiny millipedes that stink. And mosquitoes. And flies. Locusts, roaches, hornets... Seriously, ladybugs, butterflies, and bees are carrying the insect team...

We don't normally deal with stink bugs around here, at least not that much.  Last year roaches everywhere as it was so hot and dry they were looking for any source of water to include your shower drain.  We kept our drains closed all last summer to avoid them getting into the house.  This year it's been cicadas and crickets which I don't mind at all.  Both make good fishing bait.  Our usual pests are the paper wasps, yellow jackets, and red hornets.

I haven't had crackers and jam in ages.  That sounds like a good snack for tomorrow.

Day 23

Carried the Master Fisherman today (with a variation of the fish scaler) but didn't have an opportunity to put it into action today.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 24

I looked at the storm track last night, and the map shows that it will come exactly, precisely, down to the inch, right over my house.  You could see the animals knew something was coming.  A half dozen wild turkeys paraded around my yard eating something or other.  One came right in front of my house after making a loud 'perk' sound.  Could have been a turkey omen.  I wish the animated feather dusters could speak ominous warnings that I could understand.  Something like 'you forgot to buy salt yesterday, dummy' or maybe 'don't worry about not buying the salt.  You won't be needing anything after the wind flattens your aged farmhouse on you'.  That's the bad thing about animal omens.  They are there to see plain as anything, but you are always uncertain about their precise interpretation.
I used my red on one side only Wenger yesterday to nip some straggly grass by my mailbox.  I didn't take a photo.  Just imagine some high grass and a medium sized knife interface.  I did take a photo of the medium sized knife on my Cub.  I need to run out the last dregs of alcohol adulterated gasoline out of it before winter.  Oh, and I need to buy some salt.  Best wishes.  G

The gas station MRE was a fun badge. I liked that I was able to do it with my step-daughter (telling her she could buy whatever she wanted as the gas station was a highlight for her). I think we did weekend to weekend ie we packed on a Saturday and then ate it the next Saturday.

My wife hates stink bugs since she had one get stuck in her hair as a kid, but I've always rated them pretty low on the nuisance list (compared to ants or mosquitos or something). Don't like what they do to the apples, though. We've had a hard time getting good fruit lately.

I decided to take a photo of the domain of the mysterious Ms. Phoenix.  It looks far away from the camera, but it isn't.  You can see the paved driveway littered with leaves and stuff.  These things are slick as glass when they get wet and thick like that.  If the mysterious person needs to borrow a rake, I would gladly loan her one.  Yes, I have a loaner rake.  One is none, two is one, etc.  I would even rake the things up for her if she would ask.  And not try to pierce my neck with long sharp fangs or something.  Best wishes.  G

I assume I could've gotten the actual opening since it was cracked, but that'd be less fun.

Day 24g

A little knife action, opened a package to inspect contents before forwarding to the designated birthday girl.

Repackaged and took to post for  forwarding.

Then used the cap lifter to extract a lid pull on a can of fruit for jello mixture.

Almost forgot mole crickets. We've lost so many plants because of those.
And cicadas. How can something that small make so much noise for so long, without exploding?

When we were kids, we would catch cicadas, tie a string to them, and have them as flying pets.  We'd always inadvertently pop their heads off from pulling on the string.

Day 20
My son bought 2 used Zippos from an acquaintance (the 1 he wanted was like my 34 yo model,in woodland camo) and I got the black 1. I'll probably have something laser engraved on it at a later stage.
The finish is worn in places but it's perfectly fine to go into the edc rotation.

Day 24

Making up a day; I came home yesterday to find the Wi-Fi OOC and no hope of getting it back. So my check-ins may be sporadic and challenge posts slightly delayed.

Anyway, the nail cleaner got some use yesterday. I'm sparing y'awl the sight of the oily grime that came out. :D
