Popping open a container of mineral oil to season the cutting board.
I have used a lot of vegetable oil to season my cast-iron pan lately...

I've never been a big fan of "staglon", but I think the new stuff is even worse looking than the old.
:iagree: Some of the U.S. Stagalon looks good. The Chinese stuff is very obviously plastic doing a poor job of imitating stag.

I will hitting the road tomorrow for family business and not sure how long and or access to the net.
Safe travels!

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 9

More kitchen work for the blade. I have started to like carbon steel much better for kitchen knives.

Thanks.

Btw I didn’t know that there were so many brands made in Sheffield. Interesting knife!

Day 9: Grabbed the No. 5 on the way out.  It's a wicked cutter.  I understand why Picasso used one!

Day 9: had the occasion to use the can opener. I have to say it works better than the vic design for me! I don’t necessarily feel that way about all traditional openers, but this one is good.

Hi, all.  Just want to drop by and apologise for dropping out from the challenge.  I signed up for two challenges at once, but work/family life picks up the pace.  But am definitely coming back time to time to get my eye candies, please keep them coming!

No worries.  Life happens.

Day 9

I really like how the brass liners on this Imperial cleaned up while keeping the patina on the carbon steel.  I had to re-profile the blades (more than I wanted to) and even the can opener but I don't think they came out half bad.  I need to find me a can tomorrow to see how well of a job the can opener does.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Love that Elliot Whittler!  I have a penknife of theirs and it's a quality piece of steel.

Shame you don't live a little closer to me. I donated a large number of cans of food (maybe 40) to a food bank last month.

Taylor Eye Witness penknife for today.
Nice pocket watch, too! :tu:

Case would probably fix it for you...but then again, buying the epoxy and fixing it yourself might be more cost-effective.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 10

To my surprise, the awl made a halfways decent butter knife.

I just did that this morning. I've had a few of them pop off, a drop of glue and they're good to go.

Day 10
Speaking of case one thing that absolutely baffles me is why they don't have a simple swell end Jack. The GEC 15 and 86 patterns are some of the most popular. It's odd that they haven't brought them back. Even if only as a vault knife.

With those giant ones, I've found the easiest operation is to cut horizontally parallel and underneath the rim and rip the whole top off. I'm not sure that's the kosher technique, but i find it easier.

I found myself needing a can opener and remembered this advice.  Works so much better than going in from the top!  It's definitely a ragged edge but was quick and easy.

Of course I carried the Buck today. I used it for opening of two boxes but don’t want to bother you with the box picture again.

I like how it is sharp out of the box. No complaints.

Day 10 of 30

A fairly quiet day. I did use the scout's awl to dig a metal shaving from a finger.
