Day 28

The cockroach fight is over. Taken apart the Thinkpad 4337 dock and cleaned it without damage. Only 1 dead roach found (with some legs of dead roaches, possibly they cannibalised each other leaving only legs behind).

But when I put it back, it seems some mechanism does not engage properly, or it only releases if a thinkpad is inserted. Not risking getting my x220 stuck, I am not trying it.... yet.

The Vessel/LM combo is not only overkill, it may as well apply too much torque.

The Wiha holder that comes with the set, seems sufficient and more appropriate

Taken apart, including the PCB and back plate

Not sure where to find a service manual for it.  :dunno:

@kaevin: I feel your pain. I'm currently dealing with an ancient piece of electronic gear with a function that's erratic. And it'll likely need a new LCD.

@m47mu74nt: what the heck knife is that? It's definitely different.

@SurgeUK: you could awlways emigrate to the States. :)

More great work, y'awl! :2tu:

@m47mu74nt: what the heck knife is that? It's definitely different.

This is a very small balisong knife that also has a clip on a cord that locks on the pivot screws (by friction) and allows for neck carry.
It has been designed by late French knife maker Alain Descy and (still?) produced by MaxKnives.

This one has served me well opening shipping packets, cutting box straps etc....

Day 29

I had found the frame of a shelving unit that is the same as two I already have from our local hardware store.
So I thought I'd make shelves for it. I found a couple closet doors so I removed the hinges and handles with the Tone ratcheting stubby, and I used an existing shelf as a guide to cut new shelves. The first one is kinda crude but it's freehand with hand tools. It fits the frame so I can put things on it. I may attempt to make nicer shelves with my brother's power tools but for now, I have a shelf. One down, two more to go.

Day 28
The Craftsman with a set of Craftsman nut driver bits. Yea, they are a bit neglected. I got the bits in a mechanics set about 25 years ago, but the set also had actual nut drivers, so these rarely get used. They're looking a bit spotty, guess I should oil them.

And speaking of forgotten tools.....
A weird socket set. These are an odd 3/4in hex drive (m/f are reversed too) that secure with ball detent, and are roughly cast from some mystery alloy. The most interesting thing about their manufacture is the final sizes appear to have been cut on some sort of press or broaching operation that pushed a bur of excess material deep into the socket leaving a snowflake pattern of debris.
I don't have a driver for them, and I have no clue where they came from or anything about them.
I think they may be from a roadside kit, but that's just a random guess.
