Day 14 - this light has served me well for some years now and even if I don't live in a rural environment anymore but we actually do have streetlights here I still keep it in my pocket everyday. And uses it a lot all the small things like looking under the sofa to like today when I was out testing a used car. (didn't buy it, but found a lot of rust thanks to my olight)

Congrats to friends PitCarver and Alan K for completing their homework assignments and each can poke their hands in the mason jar holding the points and take the appropriate number.  Thanks to friend Kottskrapa for chipping in a nice flashlight photo.  All three of you can go outside and play now.  No running in the halls and don't get your clothes dirty.  Best wishes.  G

Day 13
Monday, fire & light mini challenge...right?

Left to right

My usual EDC (not counting mini fero rod on my SAK lanyard)
Streamlight 2L-X and Bic
Not much to say here... a Bic is a Bic and the 2L-X is an upgrade/replacement for my 12+y/o 2L.

Some oldies
A Zippo I got in Highschool almost 30yrs ago, its clean brushed metal now but it used to have a HarleyDavidson logo on it. The belt case was a gift from my wife over a decade ago. I don't smoke and its a nuisance to keep it fuled in TX heat, so I don't carry it anymore

A Wenger Fidis
I thought these were so cool when they came out but the lighter line was discontinued so fast it took a while to find this one. It's is very interesting with its secondary tank and flint storage. A very nice lighter but has become a display case Queen.

And last my workbench set
A butane cigar lighter w/ 4 jets. This is great when I need more fire than a Bic bit less than a blowtorch.
Don't try to light a cigarette with this one, you will burn away half of it before you realize its lit.
*Ive seen it happen

And a cheap 2AAA cob style pocket worklight. I picked a handful of these up from a clearance bin to use in power outages (good light, decent batt life) and one found life magnet stuck to my tool rack. It's handy for searching tool/parts drawers & shelves
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Kudos to friends JonesE and Noa Isumi for their excellent posts.  I knew there would be some Zippos in this mini challenge.  At least I hoped so.  Still a few hours to go in the event.  Points are awarded and all that.  If someone sees Kottskrapa and he is still playing in the mud, tell him to go home.  Gå hem!
Best wishes.  G

Day 12:

Day 12:

Used a new-to-me Coghlan's 180mm Sierra Saw when cleaning up the yard. The current ones are made in Korea, and decent, but have cheap handles. These are from the '80s and were made in Japan by ARS. I have some ARS (private label for Stihl) folding saws, and hte kerf is a little thicker, meaning the old ones cut much faster. I went through a pretty thick (3-4 inch) branch in seconds.

Traded a few larger knives I didn't want (and had been in the knife trunk for 2-3 years unused) for a few smaller ones I did, and the Coghlan's was in the bunch I laid on the counter--so it cost me little. Since I lost my Stihl recently, it'll be used until it turns back up. While it's got some rust, I doubt it was used much. The teeth are still extremely sharp.

Day 13: What I had and alternated between in my everyday shorts and my work/running errands shorts over the past few days.

The Gerber STL was also in the bunch I got with the Coghlan's saw. It weighs near-nothing and has a liner-lock. Virtually unused when I got it, and still sharp.

The Kershaw Launch 10. VA had legalized carrying autos in July of 2023. In the course of roughly a year after that,  I had looked at everything from Boker Plus AKs and Lightning OTFs to these and Microtech Emersons.   I like a small knife, and a hawkbill has extreme cutting power for hard use. Also, my local knife store only recently started carrying the Bokers, so I went with the $100 Launch early last year. Kershaw discontinued it recently--apparently because it doesn't work well with those with large hands.   Opens in a hurry for emergency cutting as well.

Buck 112LT Slim Select--weighs like nothing and carries well. I alternate it out with the Kershaw if I might need to use a knife in public.

Leatherman "New" Bond. Recent warranty swap for a broken PST. I honestly like the new blade better, and the quality is better than my first production run Bond.

Wurth Zebra Mini Ratchet. Recent pickup as the bits store in the handle. While it's convenient to not have to carry a rack of bits, the magnets don't adequately hold the bits in. I'm going back to my old Titan, but 3D printing an insert for it, an extension, and a curated selection of bits that will fit in an Altoids tin.

Klein Tools D215-6; from the early '50s. The date code is O-E-EK. They have wire strippers built in (factory, not someone else's mistake)--a rare feature. But, the handles feel great, and they take the harder pliers work, and most wire cutting.

Snap On PBM5S. My only Snap-On item off a tool truck during a visit to my mechanic. It has handled most pry tool duties in the year or so I've had it. They're sturdy and have a great handle. I just need to quit losing it--AND buy a high-vis model when I take the car in for its annual inspection tomorrow (which is why it's scheduled to coincide with the Snap-On guy's visit).  This version is a limited-run Power Blue edition (with a metallic finish!)--only not-black one the guy had on his truck at the time.

Victorinox Walker (the short-lived Lumberjack revival). For yard duty and most outdoors stuff, all the knife I need.

Maglite LED Solitaire. This blue one is my original from 2017. Was missing for at least a couple years (under some junk in the outbuilding right beside the Mini Griptillian I had on me at the same time), and had already been replaced by the Warm White version. Back in action.

1963 Chrome Zippo. Bought this one in a sorry state for pocket change at a local antique store. Robbed parts off a modern Walmart model, and put a brand new wick and flint in it. It works great, and holds fuel for a decent amount of time. It's only use is heat shrink tubing, paracord end melting, and fire starting as usual. I don't smoke.

Nice!

That reminds me, my CT34 needs to go back to CT for a little work. Now that I've got a 3D printer, it could sure come in handy for minor adjustments. But, I'll have to see if I can find the 2mm/3mm bit that is still sold on its own, but originally came packed with the Beretta pistol tool version.

A dedicated Cybertool for 3D printing! I like that idea!

Day 14
How about some stones....
The wife was wanting me to sharpen our kitchen knives so that's the pic. A small Arkansas stone drizzled with veggie oil, an occasional touch of the ceramic rod did the trick

Then I decided to lay out the box
I know I've got more stashed about but this is the options at my bench without going to stationary power tools.

My only excuse for not awarding friend Kaevin his five points, is that I read his post on Sunday 13th and forgot the time difference between there and here.  I will be sure to send the full five points his way by carrier pigeon today.
Congrats to friends Aztec, cody, BPRoberts, and David Bowen for their contributions.  Points have been credited to your accounts here at MTo.  I might have missed somebody else.  Hopefully not.  That was near 100% participation from the members.  Congratulations.
As for naughty Kottskrapa, some lady showed up in a car and dragged him away.  She had a firm grip on one of his ears and was giving the other ear the business verbally.  Wow.  She came looking for me, but I'm not afraid of women.  I would have told her so if she had found me behind those boxes in the broom closet.
Best wishes. G

ANOTHER MONDAY MINI CHALLENGE?
Could it be?  Is it possible?  Will there be another mini challenge next Monday 21st?  There will be if somebody (not me) signs up to conduct one.  Make a post and say, "IMR, I think I will lead another mini challenge."  Any item or items on MTo will be fair game for challenge requirements.  First come, first served.  If there are two who want to do it, then I will assign one member to the Monday 28th date.  Only members taking part in this Anniversary Challenge event are eligible to start the mini challenge.  Fair enough?
Post clearly what the requirements are, and give everyone two or three days at least to gather things together and take some photos.  Who will be the next 'follow the leader' in this game?  Best wishes.  G

Day 15

Opinel with some penne pasta salad.  The chunks are zucchini instead of cucumber.  I would have tossed in some cukes, but I didn't have any.  The Opinel comes with two quarter inch driver bits.  One is a little slot driver and the other is the phillips type in the photo.  I have been carrying this one mostly while doing outside work.  The bright yellow does show dirt better than the gray one would, I think.  I will have to clean this one up soon.  Best wishes. Halfway through!  :woohoo: We're having fun now!

Yesterday I saw a billboard advertising General Jim's military surplus store, so I had to stop. It didn't disappoint! I only got a few items but I would have liked to get a truckload and the truck to haul it! Here's what I did get, though:
Romanian infantry shovel (used)
British army pocketknife (Italian marked but there's a story behind that)
P38 can opener
USGI laundry bag

I don't know what it is that is so appealing about military surplus stores.  I don't think I have ever passed one without going inside.  I am really liking that Anglo/Italian multi-tool knife.
Went to W-Mart this morning before it got too stinkin hot.  Took some photos of the resupplied watch display.  The new low priced leader of Kounterfeit Kasio Kopies is George.  I took some pix of the sport type watches.  I wouldn't expect Casio type rugged durability, but most are only $10.  They actually look good.  I will try to post a photo.  Best wishes.  G

I like my Walmart watches.  It's about the only place that I can find an Arabic faced watch that's farge enough for me to read without my cheaters.
My Skmei Casio copy was less than $15.00 and will probably last me a few years.
