How important are scissors to you?
on: January 30, 2026, 05:10:03 PM
For the 25 years I have carried multitools I don’t think I have ever needed or used scissors.
For most of those years I have carried a wave when allowed and either a cs4 or paratool when not.

I had been more recently being carrying a knifeless rebar that also has scissors with a mini trapper., until now moving to my bond (no scissors).

I also carry a ps4 on my keys but the scissor spring committed harakiri many years ago so are utterly useless.

So as-well as loving the scissorless bond am thinking of swapping the wave out for the also scissorless charge alx. Maybe using the Philips/flat from the wave one side and then getting a glass breaker bit for the other side.
But despite having never having needed scissors am still a little hesitant to stop carrying them.

Is anyone else more than happy to not carry scissors? looking at you rebar and Supertool users :pok:
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

My first SAK was a Camper.  I loved it, but I also coveted my father's SwissChamp, partly because it had all kinds of other stuff beyond my Camper, but largely because of the scissors.

I like the Compact these days simply because it has the most basic features- including scissors.

I think you can see where I'm going with this.....   :D

I like scissors.  I use scissors and I insist on them somewhere in my EDC and on the occasion that I don't have them I generally will find some reason to miss them.

I could have a scissor free EDC, but I don't think I want to.

I have a mustache and wife and kids that likes to do arts and craft of all sorts.. So scissors are used alot but I'm good with my rambler most days. Before kids and wife I was young and had no mustache so I got my with a sportsman for most stuff.

So I'm guessing it will change later in life once again

Very important to me. Used multiple times in a typical day. There are so many cutting tasks for which I find they are better suited than a knife blade.

I am quite picky about my EDC scissors and really only the scissors found on 91mm / 93m SAKs will do. If I am carrying a pliers MT (not every day) I don’t care if it has scissors or not, as I will have a SAK with scissors on my person anyway. The main pliers-based MTs I carry are the Rebar and the butter blade Vic Spirit. The latter has scissors which are very good for some things, but not as good as SAK scissors for general use. I rarely get them out.

I very rarely use scissors on a SAK or multi.  I keep a WISS electrician's scissor on my desk and it gets scissor duty.   One of my favorite SAKs is a Climber.  A Spartan with scissors.  I don't even try to explain that paradox.  Best wishes.  G

I was considering swapping the ps4 out for a micra, but sometimes I like to just carry a traditional knife and on several such occasions the ps4 pliers proved invaluable as they are surprisingly capable.

If only Leatherman fixed the scissor spring issue rather than retiring the ps4 completely.

I could carry a compact with the bond but if I was to carry both knife and tool I would probably move back to the knifeless rebar as it is a more capable tool.

Scissors were always pretty important, but now that I have a toddler I find myself using them so often they're absolutely a necessity.

There is now a scissors-only 93mm Alox SAK that is fairly unobtrusive as a second carry (10mm thick, 44g) and it’s quite a bit cheaper than getting a Compact.

Companion X? If it could be attached to my keys I would 100% buy it.

Yeah that one. But no split ring on it of course so no easy way to do so.

If they did an 84mm companion x alox with a split ring that would be perfect.

I would be into that too. But I think it is fairly clear that Hell will freeze over before Vic makes 84mm scissors again.

I like scissors. And down here, they are not going to cause any screams. I carry several scissors: Wave scissors in Rebar, Roxon S501U (the knife and shears tool with replaceable blade), Manager on keys, Fiskars folding scissors on keys. Uses come up daily, sometimes on the street, train station, shopping mall, at work. I do bust out a blade sometimes, but usually it's scissors, and sometimes, it can only be scissors, for the odd mustache hair that is annoying me, tape, thread, cutting a full A4 paper into tiny squares if I print something, etc.

I'd love to do everything with a Cold Steel Spartan, but in doing so, I might attract police, get fined, or even lose my job. Or my nose.

I think you might be able to do it by drilling a hole through the end of a scale and liner. But will need to have a look on mine later as it might foul the tool when opening. Would also depend on finding a metal drill bit of 2mm or similar that does not break when you try to use it.

I awlmost awlways have scissors on my keychain SAK. I know some people who won't buy a multi without them. That's a bit far for me (I don't need to carry 2+ scissors), but having A pair on me most of the time is very helpful.

I will say that when I've done some scissorless carries for challenges, I found that a small blade (like the smaller one on a 91mm SAK) generally fills in well for detail work, and is reasonably public friendly.

Admittedly, all the years that I carried just a trad or just a Vic Spartan, the sky did not fall.

Amongst folks who carry both scissors and a knife blade, I probably lean more heavily on the knife blade and less on the scissors than most.  As examples, I virtually never open any sort of package with the scissors, and even use the knife blade for fingernail maintenance most of the time.

However, I do find the scissors so handy (mostly for personal grooming) that I am loathe to go without them.  I consider the Vic 91mm/93mm scissors the gold standard, but the smaller Vic scissors are serviceable.  Having a Rambler on my key chain has been great, as I have the scissors and some other basics covered regardless of what else I am or am not carrying.

For the longest time I thought I don't need them. Until I started carrying tools with scissors. Now they are pretty important for me in a multi tool or a SAK. Not that I wouldn't carry a tool without one, but I'd conciser to also take one with  :D
Mustache trimming; stray finger skins - those around your nails, they hurt and bleed when they peel back. A good trim keeps them from peeling further; tying line and flies when fishing; a loose tread on a piece of clothing...

Much like flashlights, it’s only when you carry them and start to use them that you realise how handy they are to have on you.

Well I have ordered a replacement ps4 spring kit off Etsy, that I will get around to attempting sooner or later. But until then have swapped the ps4 on my keys for a micra till then as I am carrying the bond everyday as loving its size, weight and pocket clip.

That would be me... almost.

For long years I used to carry this pair of folding scissors by Fiskars in my EDC backpack:

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

But with nearly zero use, I eventually retired them to my travel toiletry pouch.

Currently, I do carry scissors included in my LM Style keychain:

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

But to say that I use them even once a year would be an overstatement. Once every couple of years, more like. So if they weren't there, I wouldn't care or even notice. In my use cases, I'm yet to be surprised by a task where a knife wouldn't be equally or more suitable.

Depends on what are your EDC needs.

I'm a white collar and mine is a mostly urban EDC. Scissors are the tool I like the most because they are so handy for papers, packets, etc. In fact the biggest flaws with a marvel like the Powerpint are the bad scissors, to me at least.

If you are out in a job were you are really givin your tools a ride for their money.... maybe not so useful.

Anyways, Victorinox has maybe the best scissors that there are. That makes me think they are important to many people.

Not at all important to me on a multitool. On my Charge TTi I find the scissors fiddly and pointless and would rather not have them. I do like a seperate pair of scissors though. I suspect the Wave Alpha scissors will be a great improvement, but I'm not changing out the TTi to find out

I carry a small pair of scissors in my wallet for that purpose. On an mt, Super Tinker scissors are pretty solid overall. Scissors on a Spirit shine for cutting zip ties.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I am probably in the minority on this one, but I am NOT a fan of scissors on multitools.  I don't like trying to work small scissors that are attached to an 8 oz brick of steel.  90% of the time I would prefer to use the knife to cut almost anything.

There are exceptions.  Tiny keychain sized scissors have their place.  Also tools like the Leatherman Raptor that are scissor based tools.  I carry a leatherman Style PS4 on my keys.  It has a tiny pair of scissors but the tool it is connected to is also tiny.  I rarely use it, but I am glad to have it when I need it.  I used to carry a Gerber Solstice.  Now that thing was a good set of scissors.  Very powerful for it's tiny size.
